"WIND TUNNEL" FIND

#1

Post by CMD »

Technically these cans weren't found in a wind tunnel. They were found in the vacuum spheres at a wind tunnel facility near the LAX airport. The mid-1950s overstock of cans from the can company went into the vacuum spheres to help with temperature changes (I know this because we have a wind tunnel facility where I work). Anyways great find

Actually that's a good thing otherwise the 20 or so different cans that were in there would have a value of $1 today each

As it is , IMO ,the prices of the cans from this find are still way over valued

"WIND TUNNEL" FIND

#5

Post by beercanman »

No count ever done because they were being sold to several buyers by several sellers. This was a lead that I was the first to get and it was insane to be a part of it via long distance. If I break even in the end I'll be happy. It just didn't go as planned. Mike Wilbur and I even spent money having the cans tested for PCB's! I don't think any other buyers cared about that but we couldn't sell "poisonous" cans with a clear conscience.

I have plenty of cans still in my basement from this find. If anyone needs anything please ask. Maybe I'll put some on the RB auction site.

And even though we don't know exactly how many cans were there, the estimate was 4,000,000. This find will be hard to top if just considering sheer numbers.

Please blame all incorrect spelling and grammar on Tapatalk and iProducts.

Steve, putting a couple of the cans on the RB auction site is a good idea. Make sure they are ID'ed as wind tunnel cans. I like knowing if cans I pick up are from a significant find, so I would think others are the same way.

Most cans had plenty of scratches, but a few came though pretty clean. Okay - you convinced me. I'll get some on the auction site. Could be a little while but hopefully by Christmas.

Daev,

Thanks for the promo!

I just listed a half-dozen wind tunnel cans on the auction site - http://www.therustybunch.com/auctions/a ... ?user_id=5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

From what I was told, the cans in the wind tunnels were used as some type of baffle to absorb heat or help with temperature control. I'm not a wind tunnel expert. I just collect.

My favorite can found there were the Albion Ales. There were not too many of them that I saw. There were also some of the tall/skinny C&C Orange cone tops. There were also a few decent oil cans. -Mike
