Solution used straight out of bottle at room temp.

Container: Large prepared frosting container.

Seems to work pretty well. Temp is critical to speed of cleaning.
Temps were mid-50's. Product directions say it will produce this result
in 24 hours if room / solution temps are 60 or above.

It is odorless as product claims.

Testing another can in old solution as we speak. Will report on
results later.

Interesting that you post on this...I had seen this a while ago on the internet when I was researching cleaners other than oxalic and citric...I saved the web site but never bought any...the results, to are quite impressive...The question is how many applications can you get out of it and what happens when multiple cans are dipped...mt

I plan on doing exactly what you outlined above. I was also wondering what would happen if it were diluted, as it's a tad pricey. The 32oz container pictured will be around $6.00 after mail-in rebate. Appreciate the interest.

To me, that looks a lot like a citric acid result. The little pits on the bottom part of the label are consistent with what I've experienced with a good long citric soak. So that's my bet for the solvent at work here.

yeah, but Citric acid would blown holes in that can...especially for the amount of time it was in there...what I am impressed with is the amount of color left in the can...seems to me that you get the best of citric and oxalic in this...I am going to buy some...mt

I see that this is an old thread, but I am curious if there are any more thoughts on using this product vs. citric acid vs.oxalic acid?

old thread to the top - I'd like to see some updates here as well. I have some worn out stuff that will not touch rust anymore, I have used it will great results on vintage bicycle parts, and it does wear out quick, especially if contamonated ( grease, dirt, etc ). so think with cans it might wear out quickly, too ?
I have to get more, then might post my own pics.

Yeah. I could only grab a few nuggets of info out on that as we'll. I guess the major ingredient causes a chemical process called chelation. Maybe a science major can put it in more layman terms. All I know is it's no economical to use on a lot of dumpers and it doesn't burn your hands. Then pics say a lot and it's worth the $9 for a quart or $25 per gallon to give it a try or save it for only worthy candidate cans. Like rusty indoor cans.

I am doing more cans so when they are done I'll post before after pics

The latest candidate has been soaking for about 4 hours

The last pic has a rust spot I'm trying to get rid of. But it may take a whole or another soaking. I don't want to leave it in over night regardless of how safe it is

After the 3rd can, I noticed that the finish came off on part of a dumper, so not sure if that was due to oxidation or the solution it was soaked in. I might try and order some of the compound off ebay to see if adjusting the concentration of the fluid will help.. More tinkering and testing is needed.

I bought a bottle today in LA at O'Reilly auto parts. $8.99 for 32 oz.
So I had an idea - I guess we shouldn't dilute it by filling the can with warm water, so I'm going to put a balloon in the can and fill THAT with water while leavinig the nozzle of the balloon sticking out the top so I can deflate and get it out. Probably over the weekend. I'll post before and after shots.

Is the water in the can just to displace the cleaning solution?

I put a balloon into the can, filled it with water, put a stick across the top of the can and tied the balloon nozzle to it. So I was able to use 1/2 a bottle instead of a full bottle. Where there was rust on red, I think it faded it the paint, but it didn't do so on the parts with no pre-existing rust. After 7 hours there was little result but going to bed and getting up this morning - it was much improved. I know this can had never been dipped in anything since I found it 37 years ago and never did anything but clean the dirt off of it. I can't wait fo do a few more. Stuff definitely removes rust. Best part is that I got the goat out from under the rust. I even got a little bit of metal showing on the rims and top from this rusty turd.
