I have a few flat top cans that I got over the years that are true grade 1 cans but came with a little surface rust on the seams (and rims).
How do you go about cleaning the rust without disturbing the painted area of the can?
Thanks in advance,
THOR

Depending on the rust and how heavy it is, I'd use one of two methods. Very light, or humidity rust, I'd go with Exrust on a Qtip. Heavier rust would require an acid bath. Not too strong, maybe 15 mins. to a half hour should do it. Won't hurt the paint either.

Thanks Scott. It is very light surface rust.
Where do I buy Exrust?
Anybody ever use a Dremel or fine high speed tool with attachments for polishing?
Cheers,
Thor

Exrust is an industrial rust remover available at Kanolabs.com. I talk about it some on the repair post. Using it with a Qtip is good for spot cleaning, but is tricky for soaking cans.
I do a lot of polishing in my business. I do not recommend it for anything on a beer can. Polishing actually removes top surfaces. If you want to polish up a can, try using a high quality auto wax.

If you dont want to submerge a whole can in Acid but want to concentrate the acid in one particular spot I use ZUD mixed up into a thick paste by adding water to it then put it where you want it. Works for me. LEON.

any ratio, or is it just trial and error when making the paste?
