How should I clean burned cans?

I need to clean some cans that were burned. The ones that weren't totally charcoaled look baked and discolored. Citric, oxalic, or just soap/water? Would the color be more or less likely to bleach out in hot water now that they've been baked?

I don't know anything about cleaning cans but I would be surprised if you could clean burned ones. Put up some pics so the experts can see how bad they are.
They will probably tell you to use hydrochloric acid.

I dumped these last weekend in Oldtown, MD, behind an old house. The huge piles of oil, soda, and beer cans were all incinerated. I managed to pick out some that escaped being too blistered and charcoaled. I was curious as to whether or not the readable, but baked, paint would clean up differently. I ended up just cleaning them with oxalic. Here are the results:
