Metal Rescue...another alternative?
I had recently picked up a jug of Metal Rescue and decided to give it a try, I had been using the Evapo- Rust with some success. Here are some results I have had over the last couple days, and I must say I'm happy with them so far!
Here is a group of cans recently acquired that I have been trying it out on. I picked up a few tricks from other members on how to do single cans. I chose to use a 2 liter soda bottle. The liquid starts out crystal clear and will start to darken off after a few cans, I guess it will happen faster on really rusty cans.
Here is a Sussex Ginger Ale soaking. Happy with the how it went on the Sussex Lime Rickey, and no it did not lighten the green...just different lighting.
Sorry for the crappy angle on the photos but I was not really planning to do before and after pics.

Re: Meatal Rescue...another alternative?
i think it looks great for humidity rust cans, but most of us find some pretty ratty beat and rusty cans here on the right coast, we'd have to see it on a completely rusty can.

You mean like this!...never did one with the nodules of rust before....hey Ted this was one of yours ....think it'd be ok to give it a try? This was a metallic can right?RustyGoats wrote:i think it looks great for humidity rust cans, but most of us find some pretty ratty beat and rusty cans here on the right coast, we'd have to see it on a completely rusty can.
Not sure how much improvement would be achieved.

I have several more to do with light humidity spotting/rust so when I'm done those I'll dunk it in and see how it goes.RustyGoats wrote:sounds good hate to make you waste some though.

Re: Metal Rescue...another alternative?
Just curious as to what the soak time is like... Is it a short soak like oxalic, or longer like with citric acid?
That Sussex lime looks great after it's soak! Have you had any color fade with red?

Re: Metal Rescue...another alternative?
Thanks!....its longer for soak time...over night seems to do the trick, 8-10 hours....6 hours on real light stuff. On cone tops I would be very cautious!....almost toasted the blue color on a Mission cone ...but that was with the Evapo-Rust, not sure what this stuff would do.IRTP Phil wrote:Just curious as to what the soak time is like... But had recent great success on this 7up...but the red on them is almost an orange/red....but I had no fade at all. Metallic finishes seem to be delicate but have had little to no loss on the Sussex's
Here is the before and after on this 12oz 7up...a good improvement I think.

That 7up cleaned up beautifully. It's especially noticeable on the lids. Thanks for the post! Looks like good stuff...

Yeah but how much does a gallon cost, I think compared to Acid it's like 10 times more expensive. LEON.

Re: Metal Rescue...another alternative?
Some places sell it for as low as $12-13 a gallon....up here I pay a lot more, but I don't care because it's convenient and safe to useLeon wrote:Yeah but how much does a gallon cost, I think compared to Acid it's like 10 times more expensive. LEON.

Re: Metal Rescue...another alternative?
yea for sure ehh .....thanks I'm happy with the results on those cans and the product does have it's place for light rust, but it still can roach color on some cans...ie: orange!...as I found out the hard way!

Re: Metal Rescue...another alternative?
It's been a while since I tried out a can so I thought I'd try this one that came from a rusty brother in New York
I'm happy with slight improvement! ....here is the before and after, I just went easy on it with a 6-7 hour soak.

Re: Metal Rescue...another alternative?
I use it on old tools I find. I did find it can remove paint on old cans where the rust got under the paint.
