Basket case ball knobs-a quick how-to for bringing them back

Heres a method I use that works pretty well. And realize-this works best on knobs with a single color and large (raised) graphics. It will not work as well on tap knobs with ornate, multi color images and tiny wording or type. Instead of using Flitz on the face, you could use fine steel wool too. But the Flitz really works well for bringing back cloudy or oxidized bakelite. (what the ball is made of) I'm sure you wondered HOW the red turned to a nice brownish color here? It's probably the metal shavings mixing into the paint?? Whatever the reason,it helped achieve a vintage patina.

Good luck!
