Keeping cans looking their best after they come out of acid

#1

Post by iggyks »

I've been cleaninga lot of mystery flats and some cones; condition is usually not good, but when I find a can I haven't already dumped or don't have at all, I keep it regardless. I rinse the can in running water right out of acid, sometimes i dunk it in neutralizer (baking soda/water mix). I hand dry with a towel, spray on WD40 and take off excess with paper towel, usually put in front of a fan to try to remove inner moisture. I know they are going to look better wet coming out of the acid but they really seem to dull a lot, and often i need to spot-apply more WD40 where the dry rusty look is coming back - mostly on the lids. Any help would be appreciated! Iggyks

i heard acrylic floor wax does the trick. spray is easier then with a cloth. I actually did a few today, my first ever and they seem to need a couple of coats. I am using the cloth technique. I cant seem to find the spray type. It just seems that wd40 would be to oily if you display inside or on a nice oak shelf.
