Re: QUESTION for the guys who use oxalic acid
Steve,
I feel it is good to both sides of the cans at once.I dont see the point in preventing the inside of the can getting cleaned.I have cleaned hundreds of cans and find the total cleaning method the best.

Re: QUESTION for the guys who use oxalic acid
I'VE NOTICED THAT IT WEAKENS THE CAN AND SOMETIMES CAUSES HOLES. I'M GONNA TRY IT AND SEE IF IT WORKS? I'M JUST TRYING TO KEEP THE CANS SOLID ,

Re: QUESTION for the guys who use oxalic acid
I fill mine with tap water before I soak them. I've never capped them and wouldn't even know how to but I figure there is no reason at all to clean the inside of the can unless you like holes or possibly if you like to use twice as much acid. I've been doing it for over 15 years with great results.

Re: QUESTION for the guys who use oxalic acid
I FOUND PLASTIC CAPS ONLINE FOR #211 LIDS WHICH IS WHAT WAS ON FLATS BACK IN THE DAY. I ORDERED A FEW TO GIVE IT A TRY AND I THINK IT WOULD SAVE ON ACID BY NOT MIXING MORE WATER TO FILL THE CANS RIGHT ?

Re: QUESTION for the guys who use oxalic acid
The can would have to be solid, i.e. no holes what so ever. Even a pin hole will allow the water & acid to eventually all mix together anyway.

Re: QUESTION for the guys who use oxalic acid
yes but even a pin hole would not allow alot of acid water in . i think it will work and it would save me acid. the tap water trapped in can will give can weight to sink hence less acid water right ?

Re: QUESTION for the guys who use oxalic acid
Acid will dissolve evenly throughout available water, even through a pinhole. Unless the can is completely sealed, the water inside and acid outside will exhange and mix and your initial acid mixture will become diluted. But I can't see harm to can in doing it either way.

Re: QUESTION for the guys who use oxalic acid
I find that this is less of a problem with oxalic than with citric. I've filled cans when using citric, but I never bother when using oxalic.

Re: QUESTION for the guys who use oxalic acid
I would think a plastic cap would prevent the lid and seams from getting any positive effect from the acid, kind of kill the purpose of soaking the can if you aren't going to allow all of it to be cleaned.

Re: QUESTION for the guys who use oxalic acid
God causes rust. Rust causes holes. Therefore God causes holes. All oxalic does is show off God's work. So simple.
