Crown Cork & Seal Cones
Are there any identifying marks for a non J crown cone top? I have this Washington cone, and since there's no American or Continental label can it be assumed it's a Crown product?

Re: Crown Cork & Seal Cones
The Crown Cork and Seal cones will have a small crown by the seam. Later Continental cones only have a small CCC. A good example of this is Mineral Spring, which comes in both versions.

Re: Crown Cork & Seal Cones
This is strange and interesting. Crown Can Co. (Beverage Container Division of Crown, Cork and Seal) did not put any company markings on their very early cans, but this is a small number of cans and they began marking their cans by 1937. They first used "Crown Can Co.", then "Crown Can -1-37" before coming up with the small crown-shaped box with "Crown" written inside, which appeared on the seam of a number of cans before moving to the can body sometime in the late 1930's. This continued up to the war. Post-war cans then went to a stylized Crown symbol without the word "Crown". I don't collect much after the war and haven't done an exhaustive study of those cans, but I've seen the stylized Crown on many cans into the mid-1950's.
Do we know when the Washington cone was produced? Could the can company be deduced by comparing seams or spouts with other cans of the era which carry can company markings? Seam construction was key to figuring out that unmarked early cans were by Crown Can Co., so it might work on later cans also.
