DGR Update/Feedback Requested - Aero Club Cones
At Jim Hall’s suggestion I am updating/reposting here in the General Discussion section, which will later be archived in Conehead’s Cone Top Corner.
As discussed at our chapter meeting, I am seeking assistance and feedback as I begin the process of updating the Dumper’s Guide to Rareness. You don’t necessarily have to be a subject matter expert to help. Comments like “I have such and such version” or “I’ve never seen that version” could be helpful as well.
I am still looking for feedback on Aero Club cones. The BCCA Catalog had listed two versions; a non-IRTP 4% can (BCU 18-3, later corresponding to USBC 150-7) and an unpictured 3.2% can. The pictured variation was rated a “7”. Does this rating still hold up?
Further, how do we rate the following cans (all references USBC):
151-4 IRTP, no alcohol content
L151-4 IRTP, 4%
151-5 Non-IRTP, no alcohol content
151-6 Non-IRTP, 3.2%
L151-6 or 7, could be IRTP or non-IRTP, but with the alcohol content blacked out. Has anyone ever seen this?
The references beginning with “L” were the result of conversations at Canvention with Don Lewinski and Jim Hall. (And I think those are examples of the proverbial “tip of the iceberg”.)
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Phil

I only have one and it looks like 150-6, 3.2% with no IRTP.

My view: (1) the two 4% variations are pretty common and show up on Ebay frequently; (2) the 3.2% variations are tough; (3) the two variations that have no alcohol statement are probably the toughest (I don't have either one). I've never seen an example with the alcohol statement blacked out. Matt

I should have clarified - the 3.2% comes both IRTP and Non-IRTP. Matt

I'm sure Steve Armstrong will weigh in on this one once he returns from vacation.

Re: DGR Update/Feedback Requested - Aero Club Cones
I pretty much agree with Matt's assessment of the toughness of these cans. I don't have either of the no alcohol variations or the IRTP 3.2%. Below is a picture of
the blacked out 4% non-IRTP. Dan Morean had the blacked out variation in his room at canvention so there are at least two of those. Not sure if he sold it or not.
Here is a stab at the rareness of these cans. Feel free to disagree.
151-4 IRTP, no alcohol content...................DRG 9
L151-4 IRTP, DNCMT 3.2%.........................DRG 8
L151-4 IRTP, DNCMT 4%............................DRG 6
151-5 Non-IRTP, no alcohol content.............DRG 9
151-6 Non-IRTP, DNCMT 3.2%.....................DRG 7
151-7 Non-IRTP, DNCMT 4%........................DRG 5
L151-7 Non-IRTP, DNCMT 4% Black Out..........DRG 9
Here's a pic of the Blacked Out can

Yea, is does. It is actually a single paintbrush stroke. It would be an easy thing to fake if one were so inclined. I have seen numerous labels (both dumper and on grade) that have been blacked out this way.Onefineday wrote:Looks like someone took a sharpie to it.
