Unpictured Edelweiss low profile variation

#1

Post by Greg Sgro »

I have been happy to have the actual low profile Edelweiss pictured in the USBC, even though it has a spot on the front. I don't see many of them and I keep an eye out. Last week one turned up on Ebay and it was nicer than mine so I bid. It arrived today and it is a variation. The USBC can is the one on the right with no alcohol statement. The new can is the one on the left with the 4% statement. I don't usually keep variations unless it is visible on the face but I might keep both of these for a while. It feels great to get a new can you didn't even know was out there.

The one I seen on ebay last week did not look like it would pass the Blacklight test. Looked like a Professional Airbrush job. I could be wrong & no insult intended but I'd look at it real good. LEON.

I love it when that happens and another can get on the shelf by surprise. You might want to take Leons advice.

Leon,

I checked it out carefully under black light in a dark room and I don't see anything unusual.

That variation is out there. I've had it a couple of times, and have sold one on eBay at least once. Matt.

It is a a great can. I scored an off-grade indoor one with no top at Blue Gray in the early 2000's. Since traded it to STLABC. Don't see too many of these bad boys.

I have always wondered why Continental Can Co. abbreviated "applied" in "Pat appl'd for" because there's plenty of room for the "ie" to be there. :smt017

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?

I dumped a very rough Edelweiss LP last month at lake Delhi in Iowa, and it bears the 4% statement as well. It's a razor top instead of bulb style. At grade 5, it nonetheless will go on the shelf!

Probably the first dumper I've ever seen of that can. Very cool.

Wheatie, Here's a second dumper picture for you then:
There's a LP Edelweiss in here somewhere.

Don't know where I got it but I know I didn't dump it. Also don't know which variation it is. If I remember I'll check tonight.

Thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth.
2 years ago I was privileged to see an awesome collection, and was very surprised by what I found. I knew there were 2 Edelwiess Lp cones, but a third I was not aware of.
The third Lp is a transition can that looks like 160-28, "secret brew 12 ounces".
Sorry- I've been trying to find the pics, but so far, I have not found copies I can download.
Will keep trying.
Cheers, Neil

Great thread everyone! For further consideration I would love some feedback for DGR updates. The LP (BCU 23-10), HP version (Secret Brew, BCU 23-8) and HP (BCU 23-9) all rated a 4. Any thoughts on updated DGR ratings of those cans plus other variations, pictured or not, would be appreciated.
