Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone knows people that take orders for making them. All the soil probes you can buy online are absolute garbage and bend within 2 uses.
Thanks!

Re: Where/who can I buy a nice spring steel privy probe?
My Buddy I dig with just bought 2 probes but forgot who from. all his old sources dried up & he had to go through this new guy. He seems to like them, I used them & they work good. Do you want me to find out where he got them? LEON.

Re: Where/who can I buy a nice spring steel privy probe?
I emailed this guy but never received a reply

I'll try this suggestion:

Has anyone made their own? A thin steel rod with a tubular handle seems fairly straight forward.

My buddy said he got his 2 probes recently from that oldwestbottle site. They seem to work good. Canhawk, you can't just run to hardware store & buy a thin steel rod & make your own. Well, you can, I did 7 years ago but it's not the same as a real probe, which uses a special spring steel, which means it bends but bends back straight again. unlike a regular steel rod that bends & stays bent, unless you physically unbend it yourself. big difference. And some are more springy then others. LEON.

Re: Where/who can I buy a nice spring steel privy probe?
Leon, I have heard that, incl stories of guys making them out of steel auto springs. I connected this week with a bottle collector who is going to sell me one.Leon wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 9:21 pm Canhawk, you can't just run to hardware store & buy a thin steel rod & make your own. The steel auto springs your referring to is actually trunk lid hinges springs. These can be hard to find in the right diameter & length. If you get one do you have a spot planned to use it? LEON.

Re: Where/who can I buy a nice spring steel privy probe?
The probe arrived Friday. I got a 3-footer, to probe for subsurface bottles and cans in and around dumps, and in drained lake beds (of course) When we were detecting cans at Lake Delhi, Steve and I wondered if a short probe would help us pinpoint cans so we didn't shovel-foul them. In one case we fetched a stick to use on a particularly deep can I had detected.
