Ruby Red Bottle

#1

Post by MI-Cans »

I have an Anchor Hocking Ruby Red Schlitz stubby beer bottle. I would like to add a label and cap to it. Anyone have an extra Schlitz label or cap? The first two pics are of my bottle. The third pic is what I guess might be the appropriate label.

Well if you do any shopping on ebay that'd be a place to check. I did notice one similar label on there that would look great, but problem is it was bottled in New York, guess you want one from MI.

Thought I'd give this thread a bump....I've started to collect this style bottle with (preferably) a label or without a label or color preference, I do have a Royal Ruby Schlitz bottle on the way and was hoping someone could shed more light about the Royal Ruby bottle, was it only a test bottle for Schlitz only?, and were any ever filled?, also wondering if you ever found a correct label and cap for this bottle?

After doing a little more searching, it looks as though the Ruby Red bottles could have had the Old Milwaukee label as well.

Here's two things I was able to dig up regarding the Red bottles. The first was from a Winter 2004 Issue of Bottles and Extras put out by the Federation of Historical Bottle Collectors. The second is from an Anchor Hocking document that appears to be a company history along with some product details. I highlighted in yellow what I thought was pertinent info relative to the red bottles.

As per the first link MI-Cans listed, it clearly states the the quart and 7oz bottles were filled, and that other bottles went into production, but doesn't state whether or not these "other" bottles were actually filled, and was the question I was asking in my post about the "glass can/stubby" type bottles. My guess is that some were filled, but I'm still unsure.... :smt017

Yes, @Leon, add that milk bottle to your Holy Grail non-beer list. This is from the Anchor Hocking document I posted above.

Any clue which label was used on the quart bottle?, these are dated a little earlier than the stubby and the 7oz'er.

@CrustyRusty , @Leon
When I looked up background for the ruby bottle, I found this one site from Wisconsin. I bookmarked it. When I was posting back on Sept. 24th, the link wasn't working. Just checked it's working, but...it got restructured to where there's no margins on the text. Might be a pain to read. I'll play with it maybe. Here's that link.

I think that site has old outdated info. I know my 7 oz Schlitz was full. I think they made more then the 5 or so Milks. LEON.

Apparently Rolling Rock considered using Ruby red bottles along with milk glass and cobalt blue, but from what info I've come up with, they were never filled, I couldn't find any possible production numbers for any of the colors.

Thanks for posting the info about the RubyRed bottle. I have 3 1950 dated quarts that I dug at Forked Lake, NY 25+ years ago. These bottles are spectacular when you shine a strong light directly through them.

Here's two more Royal Ruby's I picked up not too long ago, these are much harder to come by, a different style 7oz and a "Tall One Way" with stippling, I have yet to see what, if any, labels were used on these.
