Coke Bottle - How To Date

#1

Post by kamsquared »

Hey Bottle/Coke Collectors,
How do I tell how old a Coke bottle is? A neighbor gave this bottle to me it's got a 6<->51 imbossed in the front and DETROIT MICH. in the bottom. See the pic below. Any info is appreciated.

The D- Patent #'s ran from somewhere around 1938-1951 & yours dates to 51 so you got the last of the d-patent. After that it just said 6 fl oz both sides or something like that. I'm sure there is somebody in here that knows more about cokes then me with a better answer. Best I can do. LEON.

Thanks Gents....next question: Does it have any value or is it pretty common? I would think they made a pretty large volume of these bottles in Detroit in the 40s and 50s.

Some collectors try to get as many cities as they can or all the little towns in a particular state.

FWIW I found one from Richmond VA in the Catskill this spring.
