When did they stop producing steinie's?
Trying to age a dump. Found some steinie's, no labels of course, but it has me thinking pre-war. Though I ain't quite sure. Stuff near the edge of the road is late sixties and working my way back I found the steinies. Bottom line, thats where I'm gonna concentrate.

Not sure, Brad should know, but I thought some may of been made as late as into the 60's? LEON.

Some European countries still make them. There are also a few that have the nickel deposit on them. I have seen an Ortlieb's steinie with the 5 cent deposit, which brings it to about 1980.

Re: When did they stop producing steinie's?
That sounds about right. There were several PA brewers using steinies in the 70's that I'm aware of...Horlacher had the same label on a steinie as they did with the late 70's can. Iron City used them through the 70's as well as did Altoona with the Pops Brau and Curve bottles.ronsmall wrote:Some European countries still make them. Looking for Illinois, Missouri and Texas steinie bottles. Looking for US stubby bottles produced between 1936 - 1941. Looking for ACL beer bottles. looking for St Louis area cans and certain Chicago area flat top cans. Holy Grail bottles are Old Albuquerque stubby from Albuquerque, Wagner Beer steinie(1937) from Granite City, Ill. and Goldcrest 51 steinie, Schepps Stubby, White Rose Stubby both from Dallas

Re: When did they stop producing steinie's?
Thanks for the info guys. Doubt if the bottle came from PA or out east. From what I've been turning up probably some WI brewery. Wausau, Mathie-Ruder, Point or Rhinelander, I'm guessin. The non-beer stuff coming out of that dump has been more interesting. Perfectly good rectangular galvanized washtub, cool old soda bottles, coffee can full of brass hose fittings, half full bottle of Christian Bros. brandy . Hopefully a beer can or two!

post a pic of the soda bottles, are they paper label or painted label (acl). Some of those are collectable & worth money. LEON.

Re: When did they stop producing steinie's?
I haven't run across too many non IRTP Wisconsin Steinies. Wisconsin makes up the bulk of my Steinie collection and I have only a handful that are non-IRTP. My guess is you are in a pre 1950's dump.LGS wrote:Thanks for the info guys. Doubt if the bottle came from PA or out east. From what I've been turning up probably some WI brewery. Tivoli in Denver used steinies for the Denver Beer brand in the late 60's.

Re: When did they stop producing steinie's?
Hey, Leon. The ones I've pulled out are neither. So far, a 24oz. embossed North Side bottling, seems like a date of '64 on the bottom. And a 7 1/2oz. embossed Duraglass North Side which is way cool and substantial enough to drive nails with. I'll try to post pictures if I can find my camera, my phone ain't gonna do it.

Not sure I'd call that Session a Steinie?

Re: When did they stop producing steinie's?
The session is a modern day stubby. Below is a real stubby...this style bottle was used from the mid to late 1930's and then the bottom of the bottle became more rounded.eddieguitarloebs wrote:The Session is more like a "Stubby" i'd say!
