Re: Another rub out
Dan, I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but for us rookies.... how do you know when a can might have a label under the paint. What do you think your percentage of right vs wrong on cans with a label under the paint? Whats the best label you have heard being found under a rub out? How long does it take , hours or days to complete? I find the whole concept interesting. Thanks, Jim

Re: Another rub out
I think it comes from places like this board and back issues of Rustlings, where it has been posted , enamel Land of Lakes can sometimes be paintovers , also enamel Blue Webers can be paintovers as well, ABCs with the keglined oval , not the national can map , and Leons favorite..Johny Pfeiffers
the key I beleive is enamel paint on the top
On this can , it was faded such that I could see a label underneath
this can took a lot of rubbing just to get it that far , far more work than the Wagner qt that had the Ebling underneath it
Illinincans , wrong answer ....guess again !

Re: Another rub out
Turtle Wax rubbing compound ( Chris Taylor suggested that in an earlier thread and it works great)
Use a clean white cloth
The Key is to go slow and do not apply very much pressure , you can not be in a hurry or you will go through all the layers of paint
I usally do it in 10-15 minute increments , that way I dont get too bored or hasty
good luck
Dan
PS doing better

Re: Another rub out
Look for gray primer on the seam.........
Another popular can to rub out are Graf's soda cans.
I don't know how to put links in a thread (Danny help me out) but there were several threads about a year ago on some of my rub outs, Chris Taylors, and Leons.
It's like a lotto scratcher, some times you win and most times you lose.

Re: Another rub out
As the story goes long ago, if you find a Bull dog Ale from California Brewing Co. there could be a can underneath it, so since this Bull dog Ale is so faded I gave it a try...Bingo! I got one, Hamms

Re: Another rub out
It was a lot of fun.
I had had that can since dumping it in the '70s, but never knew it was lurking underneath until I upgrade the Pfeiffer after being re-bitten by the beer can collecting bug after a 25 year absence.
