Very seldom seen NINE Horse Ale, predates 12 Horse.

Genny Fishing Guide.jpg
These guides were issued annually from about the 40's onward, the Light Cream Ale bottle is pretty tough. Love the label, looks like the old Light Ale.

More goodies
genesee67trash.jpg
1967
genesee68cankab.jpg
1968 Kind of cool transition ad that shows the "Naturally" can but has the next generation "Little more exciting" slogan. There is also an ad from '67 showing the "Little more exciting" can so the cans shown here were probably obsolete when this ad came out. Cool little tidbit for anyone trying to date this cans. Unfortunately I'm the only one who cares. :smt005

Genesee Beer Collection 1-09.jpg
All known Beer flat tops produced. I should also note that, early in the days of eBay, I saw a lot of 40 or so junky flats one of which was a low grade "Little more exciting" FLAT TOP. I lost the auction so I don't have the can but it does exist. Probably just a case of running out of the correct lids and installing a bottom for a lid but that can has been my white whale ever since I first saw it. I've never seen another.
Genesee Ale Collection 1-09.jpg
All known Ale flat tops produced (with the exception of micro variations such as canning codes, different shades of copper or yellow vs orange paint etc..)

This is all stuff from my own collection
001 (2) (1024x768).jpg
Early 60's tin sign showing the "Naturally more refreshing" flat top. I've only seen two of these signs.
005 (1024x768).jpg
1962-'63 light up display introducing the new zip top can. Only one anyone's ever seen and one of my favorite pieces.

011 (1024x768).jpg
Mid 50's plastic sign. I've seen these available twice.
017 (1024x768).jpg
Dated 9/2/61 showing the silver ringed flat top can. Always thought that can was older??
029 (768x1024).jpg
Light Ale advertising is SUPER tough.
123 (1018x1024).jpg
Not a Genny can but one I've always liked. Can't believe they never got sued for a such a blatant rip off.
001 (768x1024).jpg
Trim was light beer Genny put out for a little while before WWII. This mirror is about the only advertising that exists for that brand other than labels and bottle caps. I've only ever seen two of these.
002 (768x1024).jpg
"Jenny" was on everything from about the mid 50's to the early '60's.
003 (1024x768).jpg
Way cool mid 50's light up, probably about two feet long. Not seen very often.
012 (1024x768).jpg
1960's light up, roughly the same size as the one above but more common.
006 (1024x768).jpg
Late 40's T.O.C. About the size of a license plate. Fairly common.
004 (768x1024).jpg
1960's plastic sign, also comes with a bottle instead of a can. Fairly common but usually in a bad shape.
026 (768x1024).jpg
Late '40's spinning lamp. These are available from time to time.
011 (1024x768).jpg
Huge mid 50's light up clock. Only one anyone has ever seen and the centerpiece of my Genny collection. You can have this one when you pry my dead fingers from around it.
016 (1024x768).jpg
Couple of 70's era signs. Top one is quite common, the bottom one is tougher but still ugly.
017 (1024x768).jpg
Little older 2 sided light up, this one kinda' ugly too.
018 (1024x768).jpg
Other side of same sign.
014 (768x1024).jpg
The top tray is fairly tough, next one down is so-so and the bottom one is super common.
015 (768x1024).jpg
Pretty trays but all very common
023 (1024x768).jpg
Some of the tray lines are super cool but all of them are very, very common. Don't ever pay more than a few bucks for a Genny liner.

Just a couple of neat Genny pics
52horseale.jpg
Tough enough to get one of these cans let alone five of 'em. KB and I had each just upgraded our old cans and then he went and dumped one when we were in Mass. Didn't last for too long but, for a little while, we had five of these babies between the two of us.
Genny Patriotic.jpg
This is me digging a really sweet "Patriotic" Genny a couple of years ago.
Gennyporn.jpg
This was kinda' cool, my three dream cans. Had two of each for day or so, the bottom All Malt Liebo was part of the trade for the top one so I no longer have it.
genny stove.jpg
This came off an old stove I found while digging a dump. I don't think it has anything to do with the beer but I kept it anyway.

John, there's a 70's era bubbler in the shape of the number 1. It's supposed to be a number one filled with foamy bubbling beer. Their slogan at the time was "Our 1 brewery makes it best" which explains the giant #1. Pretty common and, frankly, not very attractive sign that always sells fairly high because it's a bubbler. I never bothered to pull the trigger on one and, the more often I see them available, the less inclined I am to do so. The same sign also comes as a regular light up, not a bubbler.

Dude......I'm speechless. Is that Zips stuff by any chance? If possible PM me who's stuff that is so I can schedule a viewing. I've been doing Genesee for close to 20 years now and, out of all that stuff, I think I've seen three of those pieces before. Never even knew most of that existed. I have a standing invite to Zips so, if that is his place, I'll go right away. Haven't had time to do it yet but, if that his place, I'll MAKE time! Simply amazing.

I grew up in upstate NY so I have a soft spot for this brand.

Just messaged one of my dad's old friends that had two bars on Sylvan Beach on Oneida Lake in the 60's and 70's. He informed me that he has most of his bar stuff in a barn somewhere by Oneida and that when I get up there I can procure it.

It won't be for another two years but it will happen - gotta be some choice items, mostly Genesee.

Stop by for a beer when you're up this way Senator. I should still be here in two years.

Here's a neat little item I saw last week. The original wagon complete with the 12 horse harness on the back wall. This is the real deal, it's in a museum owned by the Wehle family who ran Genesee for years. The sign said Genesee had the only 12 horse hitch in the country at the time. Made it sound like that was a big deal back then. Pretty cool to think this is the actual wagon shown on all the old advertising (not to mention the cans).

Wow, didn't have that stuff when I was there but I know, since he's restarted, he's digging the signage more than he used to. That stuff is incredible. I'm blown away by that Light Ale button, never see advertising for that brand.

Wanna' see a cool Genny item? Just ended a minute ago, I got spanked with one second to go. :smt013 :smt012 :smt022

monger, yes that is tommy's stuff. the first time i veiwed his collection he had just sold is can collection and move into the house that he had built. he had some cool stuff back then. but now now what a collection. i would say it is one of the best toc and sign collections out there. every wall has a one of a kind sign on it. the best part is he has not bought any of it off of ebay. he has done it old school and picked it all up at shows. it was a great visit, i got to see some really rare and seldome seen signs. it is worth the visit. if you plan it right there is a 12 horse chapter show held 10 minutes from his house. i will defiately make another trip up ....ron

I wanted to hit the 12 Horse chapter shows but we were out dumping both times, figures. I'm just an hour down the road from Tommy's so give me a shout next time your up this way. Our local chapter, Simon Pure, is having our summer show July 31 so you may want to think about coming out for that. It's not exactly Summer Swap but it's a nice indoor/outdoor show with a free lunch, nice raffle, and plenty of free beer. We usually get some of the New England crowd along with most of upstate NY, Ontario, PA and an occasional Ohio visitor. This year Dwight Barbacci and Lovegun Greg are planning on coming. Give it some thought and bring your local buddies!

PS Tommy Leo is always at the show so you can catch up with him too. I haven't seen his collection in probably 10 years but he had some absolutely incredible stuff before he sold off a few years back. As an added bonus the day I was there the USBC book committee was there shooting his collection for the book and other collectors had brought their own cans to be photographed. Got to see some incredible stuff that day including all the Genesee cans shown in the book. It was awesome.

a few updated Genny items from T Leo's house. He had a 12 Horse Chapter X-mas party at his house, beercankeeper was there as well. Same day as my son had a hockey game in Roch, so had a few mins to try and take his collection in. Simply incredible!!! I have never seen so many TOC signs. These 2 Genny Signs are big cardboard ads that were used on the side of Buses. Guess they were found hanging in a barn.
