Beer Can discovery in old barn
In an old barn located on some property purchased by a family member in Minnesota we discovered thousands of been cans. It appears that many are from the upper mid-west some going back 40 plus years. All appear to be empty with many being unopened. I know nothing about collecting or selling beer cans. I would guess there are well over 25,000 cans. Please contact me if you have any questions or interest. dbrandanger@visi.com

This looks like the remains of what they pulled out of that warehouse when somebody that had been big time in 70s/80s, especially with August Schell cans, passed away, perhaps???

Re: Beer Can discovery in old barn
Those cans in the first picture in the Schells cases look like they might be the Brickseller cans from that era. Below that might be some orange Halloween cans. There's sure to be plenty of Andys and Bobs and the obvious Hudy World series in the second pic and even some Bean and Bacon Days in the last picture, I think. Those look to be some Hedrick in the third pick.
BTW, thinking of how bad those beers must have been in 1978, how undrinkable would they be now?

Re: Beer Can discovery in old barn
Oh yes.
My two cents. This looks like every trip I make to the scrap yard. Without being too big of a jerk I would tell the gentleman that I would clear out his barn for $500 .. and that is him paying me. I would then make another $300 in recycling. All that for the chance of finding something salvageable.
Dan B at beercansplus gave me a lead on a collection 2.5 hours from my house. There was no meat in the collection but there is no way I would pass up the chance to sort through a collection for that one in a 10,000 shot. In the end I made the owner and myself about $150 each and worked my butt off to do it. Regrets? None at all, it is a ton of work but a labor of love. This looks like a HUGE labor of love and I am not sure there will be even a modest payoff.
I see Hendricks, Acey Duceyies, Gibbions, every Bilow, Bobs abd Bricksellers ever made. Not saying there could not be amazing gems in there, or test cans that someone on the line played around with - I am simply saying that 95% of that would be scrap and you would be working your butt off just handling that part of it.
Please, whomever get to see this in person send us an update. There has to be a great backstory.

Re: Beer Can discovery in old barn
The pics remind me of when my father stored cans at a local farm. The roof fell in and we had to move all the cans. They were stored the same way in stacks of flats and in barrels.
From the mid 70s until dad passed away in 2008 he had multiple storage places for all the beer cans. Lots were air sealed from Am Can that he had brought home to take to Gordy's shows.
I am sure there were many guys like this who got cans from can companies and hoarded them thinking they would be very valuable some day.
Instead of just recycling them, I give a lot to carpenters and construction workers to put into the walls. If nothing else this will give someone a great surprise in the future and turn them into a can collector.

Re: Beer Can discovery in old barn
This must have been the distribution point for one of the mail order houses that sold currents in the 70's, early 80's.
Wanted: Hartford Connecticut Breweriana for my collection.....
