Very cool. Keep me in mind on those cans. They've started canning some of the micros here in Chicago now. First canned beer since the days of Peter Hand I believe.

Im estaic that New Mexico has thier first cans , a little dissappointed on the can design. Santa Fe is arugually the art and crafts center of the country but the cans were designed by the brewery owners Brother-in-law's firm in KC. That would be something I would have left out of the article. The graphics on the green can ( freestyle pilsener ) are a joke. You have a whole canvas to use and they put a dime sized graphic of a hop devil and a hop angel. Im wondering what their thought process was on appoving those cans ???

That said the beer is great , The Happy Camper IPA is very hoppy and the Freestyle pilsener is very tasty , nice and smooth

If anyone wants a set of the 2 different cans, Ill can you one for $8 postpaid ( 1st class USPS)

Cheers

Back in the day (90s), I dealt with graphic artists alot for my specialty advertising business. They all used macs. In fact, they told me that Macs were originally made for graphic arts applications. Then programs like photoshop, etc came out for PCs. I remember that a client designed his own artwork, using his PC. To say it was lame would be an understatement. But hey, he didn't have to pay one of those pesky graphic artists. This happened several more times over the years. The results were always the same. Then when the product didn't sell, the client would naturally blame ME! I guess maybe those pesky graphic artists were really worth the money???

CMD's last comment reminded me of this story. Now lamo graphics created by non artists are making their way to micro beer cans. Sad day.

Bad art is a mainstay in the microbrew world. I can't tell you how many ugly labels I've seen since micros first started showing up in the 80s. Carolina Brewing in Apex NC has a lion that looks like it was drawn by a teenaged delinquent tripping on acid. They are still around after 15 years and still have that lion. "Cans Bar & Cantina" in Charlotte's 4 can "THP" set is awful. Ithink the art on the Keweenah (sp?) cans is terrible.

Of course nothing is as bad as some of the art on the 70s crimp steel "collector cans".

At least we can't blame the bad art on the 70s cans on pcs. Probably those small breweries that made such cans couldn't afford much of an art budget.

I emailed the brewery and told them although their beer was great , their can design ( more so on the green one ) was Blah ,
here's her reply and at least now I understand thier thought process

"While I appreciate your criticism of the new Freestyle Pilsner can being a little too minimal, that is exactly why we decided to do them in that style. Believe me, we looked at TONS of cans and decided what could make ours stand out would by the lack of graphics that many of the other canned beers share. Having said that, everything is new and subject to change in the future."

Ill call it a work in progress !

Maybe her grandfather designed the Poth's beer can??? Or maybe her father created Generic Beer???
