Another Connecticut Dump

#1

Post by Ctbott1 »

So a bottle buddy of mine told me that he had found a can dump the other day and wanted me to come along to help him dig it. I had visions of another amazing dump like we found last year, but it wasn’t meant to be.

We dug the hillside dump for a while but 99% of everything was smashed or toasted or both. We managed to bring him about 30 cans between the two of us and my son.

Based on the condition of the cans we decided to focus on cones, crowntainers and singe large punch flats since you folks have taught me those are usually older.

Here are the cleaned up results. Most of what we took home did not clean up but a few that I could ID make me think we shouldn’t entirely abandon this dump just yet. The older stuff was definitely concentrated so maybe we can find a spot with some better preserved cans.

You've definitely got some age there. In 40 years I have never found the Ruppert OI's in CT, though I have found the later non-OI's before. Some really nice CT brands in there. Now if only there's a spot with a little better condition … GOOD LUCK to you, hope you can hit a nice vein of rust in there somewhere!

We will go back at some point to try again. Unfortunately the area is very wet and the condition of these cans was not good. We did find some j spouts and low pro cones but not many.

I’m sure there are more cans around here somewhere - there are bottles dating as far back as mid 1800s - open pontiled so the general area certainly has potential
