Any guesses on this Qrt.

Post by digger »

Found this quart yesterday in Catskills. I’m curious what it might be ? Any guesses out there ? Probably soak it today and have the answer later.

When I first saw it I thought of a Pilsers but that orangish red line across top of can threw me. That’s what makes me curious. Different shade of green for Beverwyck but could be faded. Leon might know .

Either an Old Dutch or an Erlanger's. But neither of those really work. Can't wait to see it is.
Thanks. Dave

Ziphippie you nailed it. I was hoping it was a Pilsers , Erlangers a quart I never dumped before .It looks like the orange line that appeared near top of can was just rust .A DCW officer stopped by the side of road as I was heading up embankment go dig a dump I just had got permission to dig. After I told him what I was doing and then asked if he knew of any old dumps and he proceeded to tell me of one close by off a NY hiking trail . He said rd was gated you’ll have to walk about half mile and said the dump is in corner between 2 stone walls. I thanked him and luckily I found the dump about 5:00 pm late in day . Dig for about an hour need to go back tons of Rheingolds but Also found Trommers,R&H ,Krueger crowntainers and one Fitz Qrt. I wish I got the DCW officers name and phone # he probably knows of more dumps.

Keith do you have history or old ads on Altoona Beverage & Ice Co. which was on one of the embossed beer bottles . Thought it was strange that bottle was in a dump with Some ratty quarts and 2 Kings Brewerybottles way up in Catskills .

@digger Dwight.....Looks like they were first mentioned Feb 1925 when they acquired a brewery and then after Prohibition, they started selling beer early October 1934 but ads ceased the end of October 1934. They obviously didn't sell beer very long. They had some of the usual run-ins with the law during Prohibition selling a "near beer" but I didn't include any of those...Hope it helps...
