A few days in the Adirondacks
I’m back home from an awesome trip up to New York. My brother and I were fortunate enough to have beautiful weather and plenty of virgin dumps were dug. We never found the 30s stuff but the 40s and 50s dumps were plentiful. I never dumped New York so even the common stuff was fun for us to dig. Lots of cans to clean. We even managed to dig a few Genny patriot cans. The only downside was getting stuck by some junkies dirty bloody needle that was hidden in a toilet paper roll. I have to get my blood tested tomorrow just to be sure. KB was on board but he had some family obligations he was occupied with. Next year

@Jay Great to hear you're out digging. Goebel's in NY are always a good surprise. Hope all works out with your blood test....

Re: A few days in the Adirondacks
at least these are not the red devil black labels....well actually I kept some red ones, but they were zips from Natick. Before we left the cabin on day one, I asked my brother if he had any TP in the car just in case of natures calling. He did not have any, so I seen two rolls on a shelf behind the toilet that still had the outer paper wrapper on them. I stuck my finger down the hole in the tube on one roll to pick it up and received a painful prick in my finger. After examining the roll, some doper hid a nasty well used needle in the cardboard roll and wrapped it back up. We found quite a few Goebel variations up there. The IRTP Extra dry cans were cleaner than the ones I dug in Michigan. Rupperts were everywhere....40s 50s and early 60s. Two early 40s dumps had lots of nice Bud O/I's. I go all the way to New York to find Bud cans. Oh well. Its been a long time since I dug through that many beer cans on a trip. I'm sure you don't need pics of the dump of 10,000 Ballantine's. I could only take a few on the plane. Im waiting on cleaned pics from my brother.

Re: A few days in the Adirondacks
Nice! I always loved digging rupperts as there are a ton of small variations. Those are the genny bullseye cans though, the patriotic cans are usbc 68-30. The bullseyes come in irtp and non irtp so check the backs. The bank dump picture reminds me of a big dump near Newcomb NY.
Crappy deal on the needle stick. Did it look like it was freshly dumped or something that was outside for a long time? I think the longest anything will live on a needle is like 2 months and that's fairly rare. Just had one of our co workers get stuck recently.

Re: A few days in the Adirondacks
Mike, The patriot cans are still soaking. I did not get pics of them in the dump, because I was digging to fast. Still a lot of cans to clean. The bullseye are both irtp and non. Yea the needle think sucked. Results from the tests will be in next week. The colors are great on this can but this is the best it will get. Still a few more to clean. Of course the smashed flat patriots were rust free.

Re: A few days in the Adirondacks
Oh yeah you did find some! We used to find them every once in awhile but very few cleaned up nice. That does have great color too. What is it with smashed cans not rusting? Seen that quite often too.

Re: A few days in the Adirondacks
Congrats, those are some clean dumper cans. In a Strange coincidence I dug that exact same Zippo Lighter Fluid can today, even looked like exact same condition, I threw it back in the dump. LEON.

Good going Jay!!
Does the Goebel have a silver lid with a NY Dist Office address on it?
Is it IRTP?

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?

Re: A few days in the Adirondacks
Chris, yes it is IRTP and has the NY distributor lid. If I had known they would clean up that well I would have grabbed more. There was more to dig in that dump.

Re: A few days in the Adirondacks
No, they are post war. I believe genesee’s salute to winning the war and their first can made after the consumer steel ban was lifted. I guess that makes sense that I found 1946 license plates in the same pile.

Re: A few days in the Adirondacks
Good work J.. how did the test results come out on the needle? Nice to see there is still cans to be had up there, as my last 2-3 trips up there suggest its just gettign harder and harder to get into that classic pre war dump filled with BEV LPS and UC LPs or Fitz J Souts and Quarts and early OI's, still gotta one or 2 up there ... but nice you got some decent condition for your shelfs... spring is calling

Re: A few days in the Adirondacks
Hopefully you marked where the dump is on a map for a return visit.
Now I'll keep my eyes open for that variation at shows!
