Day late and 130 dump trucks short!

#1

Post by rbtemplar »

My wife tells me of this headline the other day after work. Eager to get back into dumping after a 25 year hiatus I hop in the car and drive to this neighboring town for a look-see. The town was digging up the area for the new levy when they discovered the old town dump. Apparently the dump was in use from the 20's to the late 50's when it was covered over. A worker told me I was too late, the EPA came to inspect the discovery at which point 130 tri axle dump trucks of material was removed. He told me nothing but bottles, cans, auto parts and whatever the average person would throw away back in day. In an effort to make me feel better he also said I most likely would not have been permitted to "rummage" through the debris.

Reminds me of a similar town dump about 10 or 15 years ago with tons of Bottles & cans every where. Luckily there was no security or any nosy people around to chase you out & police station was right across the street. If the EPA deems it potentially (or tested) toxic or contaminated soil then you can have a hard time getting access because of that. LEON.

I’d find out who the trucking company was that hauled off the dirt and ask where it was taken to.

It would be taken to a landfill for disposal. They wouldn't just dump it somewhere else.

Also just about every dump that's out there the EPA would deem toxic if they tested it. Many have things like old batteries, chemicals and other odd stuff the EPA says is dangerous. Anything with lead, solder or other heavy metals, old TV or radio tubes etc.

Dumper's tools; Shovel, rake, gloves, Geiger Counter?
Ironically this was the local paper headlines concerning this dump. I guess I would have caught on if cans I found were glowing on shelves. :smt102
