Accidently found a 1930's dump.

#1

Post by Leon »

Wasn't specifically looking for a 30's dump or beer can dump. Was Privy Digging in the U.P. With some bottle digging Friends. While they probed for the Privy I walked around the back property line to see what was there. Ends up property ended with a slight slope or hill behind it. I spotted some rust in some thick weeds. Ends up the whole hillside was full of rusty cans, I see a pile of low Pro Cones & big one punch Flats with no beaded lid. The weeds or brush was real thick so only grabbed like 2 flats & 2 low pros with some color & ran for it as I was swarmed by Mosquitoes & flies & forgot to put the OFF bug spray on. I grabbed 2 Fox Deluxe O/I's & the low pro's were Grain Belt & Hass but my Haas seems to have disappeared. I think one of the other bottle diggers grabbed it to go along with some 50's flats we found later. The Fox Deluxe Cleaned up better then I thought. I was pretty sure or assumed the Fox's would be from Grand Rapids but to my surprise from Chicago. LEON.

Pretty cool Leon.

You'll have to go back in the fall and tear that baby up. Maybe some real good stuff in there.

Probably a pre Grand Rapids era dump. If you need a buddy this fall I’ll be ready.

Some other cans found at a 50's dump & Gold medal sodas from a 60's dump & some soda flats from a 1800's house rock foundation. Also found a huge Oil can dump across the street from a old gas station that had some flats & gold gilt edge tabs. Lost or left one of my Cameras at one of the Dumps so missing many cool Pics I took. If only you found a nice long opener in the batch of soda tabs.

Looks like I’ve been doing it all wrong; I need to start looking for bottles in order to find cans.

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?

Actually that Old Bohemian long opener was a Freebie, A Antique store we visited in the UP gave me that can for free after I bought over $100.00 in bottles & wooden Crate off of him. BUT, as we know they are not to difficult to find in Michigan. I just wish it was the Lager can instead of Pilsener. all the others I found & still cleaning more .I know, nothing impressive. With the Chicago Fox's I'm hoping if I go back there will be more Chicago O/I'S like White Hillmans, Ilsner, Autocrate, ect, ect. LEON.

I cleaned a Mystery Quart cone. Ends up it's a Schmidts from Detroit. First time I ever found one of those rare Gems. It's pretty rough though, maybe I'll add a pic after some more soaking. LEON.

Don't be a wienie (my phone changed that to Senior?), get some bug spray and mosquito nets and get back to it. Whoever took your Haas knows the dump is there. It could be picked clean by the fall....plus you need to go back and find your camera!
