Texas crowntainer

#1

Post by BLindstrom »

I would say I found some mystery crowntainers yesterday but In central Texas they are always Southern Selects. However I was pleasantly surprised to pull this one out of the acid this morning. I did not have the unpainted come variation. Out of the six I found this was the only one that wasn’t completely faded out

Dug one in western Colorado near Meeker. Thought at first it was a small propane canister for a cook stove. We don't find many crowntaineers here. Nice find Bill! 👍

Though Crowntainers were no produced much west of the Mississippi, they were distributed. I owned a full Souvenir crowntainer with a Oklahoma tax stamp, making me to believe they were distributed and therefore taxed. This is just my opinion. Some of the crowntainer experts my shine in with more credible information

That was two years ago in January, Steve. They were at a "Lovers Leap" in Junction. Even I am not crazy enough to dump in Texas at the end of July

Don't know about Souvenir, but I have found Topaz, Lion and Ebling crowntainers, as well as all three Southern Selects, in Texas.

The southern select crowntainers were a regular find around El Paso and south Central New Mexico also. They did go some distances.

If anyone digs up a Southern Select Crowntainer with the 4 line crowntainer patent box on the side, I could use one for my collection. Please.

Back in the mid 70s my brother and I used to dump around the Houston area a lot. We only found two cones in those days but one was a crowntainer from Glueks. It was a red over silver type of label. I do not know if the can was distributed a lot in Texas but since we found one I suspect that they may have been.
