Dredged Lake Goebel O/I. /UPDATE 1-20-18

#1

Post by Leon »

A few Weeks ago I heard on the News that they were Draining & then Dredging a small Lake that was a popular recreational area since the mid 1800's. Was hoping for some 1800's bottles but only found a couple bottles from around 1910 & some newer ones. Was surprised to find late 1930's Goebel O/I real close to shore. Only a couple feet from shore half buried in the Mud. Did not have my Camera with me when I found it. Found 2 Strohs flats & little Goebel Bantam flat. No pics of those, they are buried under the snow in my backyard. Do have Pics of the Goebel below. LEON.

As I said above, This was a few weeks ago, when it was still 50 something degrees. Remember that warm spell we had a few weeks ago, before this cold front arrived. LEON.

That is the COOLEST OI Goebel I've ever seen.....all of the red turned black! That highlights the eagle so much better than the original red bodied eagle with the gold inlay! I'm going to start soaking my dumper OIs in swamp water for the next 80 years......

kamsquared,
For a little variety you could chuck a few on a Crystal Falls hillside and maybe get one like this.

Went back again today. now the dredged mud piles are frozen so I can walk out on them without sinking 3 feet deep. SO, I see a flat top laying ontop of the mud. looks bronze in color, I wonder, is it another Goebel O/I? I Venture way out onto the mud curious if I'm going to sink but no, so i keep going. Luckily it was on top & broke free from the frozen mud. Sure enough, it's another Goebel O/I. Then I find the infamous Yellow Johnny Pfeiffer can & another & another, some stuck in the mud & left behind. Found black labels, Strohs, ect, ect. Then I find a bright Green Metallic can barely protruding from the mud. I try to pull it out from the frozen mud & it rips in half with the other half still frozen in the mud. Ends up it was what looked like a real nice & clean Red Cap flat top, most likely from Frankenmuth. I had to leave it behind. I'm sure with a metal Detector tons of cans buried in the mud. but problem is it's either to soft or to hard from being frozen. I'm sure with the tons & tons of Mud hauled away for past few months some Regals were probably in there. Now I need to find them. LEON.

Oh baby. Galvanic corrosion and startling discoloration, sure signs of lake cans. And the preservation is there. Get a metal detector and go to town when the lake bed thaws.

Canhawk, the lake bed has been refilled with water. SO, I poked around a big pile of dredged mud just last week & found these 3 on top of the mud. I'm sure there is hundreds more buried under the rest of the dredged mud pile. LEON.
