Re: Team moflaco is out hitting the woods
Nice teaser photos. The first one looks an awful lot like the Barlow Road. The last one is Mt. Hood maybe taken from High Rocks. Great score on the Golden Age. Did you choke on the smoke? Hopefully you planned to end your trip yesterday as it's going to rain hard all this week.

Just got out of the woods. What an adventure!
Found this cool sign to add to my bullet hole collection. It even has the shotgun slug embedded in it.

Re: Team moflaco is out hitting the woods
I love those old signs. Too bad that one got blasted. Did you found it at that camp a few miles down from Olallie Lake where you took the photo with the cabin? Did you check the camp just up the road from there on the right hand side before you get to the lake? I forget what it's called but found a DuFeine there with Josh about 15 years ago. Olallie itself has been dug hard over the years but I have always suspected there was more to be had there. Maybe you found it. I assume you hit Clackamas Lake and other places on the way in there as well.
I'm curious to see what else you found. The weather last week was miserable so hopefully you got something worthwhile for your troubles.

Re: Team moflaco is out hitting the woods
Yeah, Kenn Dodds found the trash pit for the resort up there. The story is in one of the old BCCA magazines...probably 2002-2005 time frame. It was loaded with every OI and 30s conetop from the NorthWest you could think of....

We hit all those places but weather conditions were horrific. We even went to Forest Creek Camp where you dug the Old Missouri quarts, but only could find some Hamm's and a flattened BullsEye.

Re: Team moflaco is out hitting the woods
After looking at the sign again, you found it at the spot where I got my DuFeine. The mileage to the lakes checks out. Too bad I missed it (and maybe another DuFeine) but that's how it goes. We dug the snot out of Forest Creek and even spent the night there. I'm sure you saw the big pit that had the Old Missouri's and lots of other goodies. Carl found it no more than two minutes out of the truck as it was a no-brainer to locate. He went left and I went right so he got there first. I was not aware you knew that's where we got them but not a problem. There were quite a few smaller 50's pits along the hillside below the honey hole. I remember finding Tavern Pales but that's probably the last thing you want to dig up on a trip to the west coast.

Re: Team moflaco is out hitting the woods
Wrong article Randy but nice try. Actually Kenny found his cans in the summer of 2001 but the story might have lagged behind by 6-12 months.
That article did bring back some fond memories though. My youngest son is currently driving the white SUV pictured in the far background of the digging photo.

Re: Team moflaco is out hitting the woods
Always an adventure getting out digging with Regan. This trip was no exception! Another amazing adventure and experience I will never forget. I really wish we paid someone to follow us around with a Go Pro!
It was also great to finally get to know Andy Caldwell and dig some holes with him. I am amazed by his knowledge and determination and always appreciate the veterans sharing your knowledge with this rookie.
Talk about challenging conditions (pretty much the entire friggen week)! This was supposed to be the end of Summer!
This cabin and stove probably saved our lives on our first night! We gladly shared the cabin with a very active bat swooping down on us from time to time and a family of mice.
Despite the weather and terrain, we found quite a bit of variety and mainly virgin pits. I will be adding probably 20 cans to the "dumped it" collection.
Glad to see some of those mysterys are turning out Regan.
I suspect there will be a future Rustlings article on this trip, so I don't want to say too much more about it. Did I mention the weather was brutal! We were soaked and freezing pretty much the entire trip, but we still battled it out for like 14 hours each day.
In a very humorous and exciting moment, all 3 of us got stung by some very angry Yellow Jackets who were residing under ground. Regan got nailed first, we all ran back about 50 yards to figure out how we were going to retrieve shovels and such. Then one of those bastards flew over an nailed me on the hand. We again all ran like little schoolgirls. Then about 100 yards away and thinking we were out of danger, Andy got nailed in the back. We said f-it, jumped into the vehicles and went on to the next location. We get out of the vehicle and Andy has one stuck in his shirt and we all ran again. It was not very funny afterwards though. Here is my hand the next day!
On our last day of digging, Andy and I split off from Regan, as he had to drive back to Colorado and we finally found some drier conditions and several pits.
Here is Andy pulling out a Brau Haus.
Yours truly in one of the pits.
Here are some cans that I have not yet had a chance to clean. Brought back about 20 cans in my luggage.
What a crazy sport!!!
