Deadline almost there...17 Aug to Dave Reid....RB Canvention Raffle Can Pre-sales

FYI these cans come from our sponsors in exchange for those banner ads you see. Please visit their sites and let them know that you saw their ad on the RB site. If you see them at the Canvention, please go up and thank them for what they do for the Rusty Bunch Chapter

Here are the raffle items that will be at Canvention 2017. Tickets are sold in $10 blocks (which gets you 10 tickets) and you decide where to put your tickets (each of the 3 drawings has a separate bag to hold your tickets). New this year those tickets will be put into an official RB drum to be drawn from.

* If you are not going to be attending Canvention you can still buy tickets! You'll need to send your payment to Dave Reid the old fashioned way (check/money order/cash if you're a gambler), and let him know how to disperse your tickets. Please write payment payable to David Reid 279 Atlantic Avenue North Hampton NH 03862. Make checks out to Dave Reid.

You have until 17 August to physically get your payment to Dave Reid (DaveNH) and the RB officers will ensure your tickets are correctly entered into the Raffle. The raffle will occur at 1 pm on 26 Aug at the Canvention. You do not need to be present to win...........

Second Chance Can - If you don't happen to win the first three cans, your ticket will be entered into a chance to win this can.

Hello, first time poster but long time lurker. As I was browsing the forum I ran across the picture of the Marlin can and I believe it is the one I owned for many years. I inherited it and about 200 other cans (and 60 - 70 beer bottles) from my grandpa back in about '95 - '96. My grandpa would place the cans he emptied on the sill plate down in his basement and they were there for my entire childhood and into adulthood, until he finally passed them down to me. He knew I collected beer cans in my youth and knew I would appreciate them. Fast forward to 2014 and we had a financial crisis and I parted with about 100 of the cans. This one and 5-6 others were sold to a fellow named Eric and I often wondered what had become of my old cans. My grandpa lived in Indiana but would travel to FL on occasion to go fishing with an old friend and he brought this can back from one of his trips. I'm certain those scratches are from it rolling around in his ice chest. Great to see this can show up, as I always regretted selling his cans. At least I got to hang on to some of my Grandpa's collection and most of them are proudly displayed on a shelf in the den. Here's a pic of the can when I had it. My apologies if the pic is too large, I'm not the best with posting pictures.

Thanks for the memories!

bodean...RB forum lurkers are always welcome but would be interested in how I can make you want to become a full-fledged RBer. The Chapter did happen to get the can from Eric Taverntrove.com as part of his advertisement to the Chapter webpage. As noted above, you don't have to be a member to purchase raffle tickets and take that chance to win the can back.....

Please add any to the forum board anytime.....like to hear more about your collection interests and how you'd like to enjoy this great hobby even more....

Thanks for the welcome. I sent off my payment for raffle tickets this morning.

I enjoy this site because I get to see many different varieties of collections and interests. I'm not real savvy with the internet, actually any electronics, so I don't post much on websites. This is only the second site I've ever posted on but this seems like a nice group of guys.

As for my interests in this hobby, my primary focus is anything from the Lafayette brewery, which was only a couple blocks from my grandfathers home and he had a pretty good collection going when I acquired it. I've managed to add a few items since acquiring his collection but he had everything from letterheads to conetops. There are still a few things I'm looking for, number one is either labels or bottles of Tippecanoe beer. It has been a long search but that's the fun of the hobby. Once again thanks for the welcome and hope I can add to the discussion from time to time.

Awesome, Bodean -- some of us collect the whole world, and some of us are "primary focus" guys. One thing I have found out is that I can learn something from every last one of them. Cheers & hope to see you at a show some time.

I just re-read the address for sending payment for raffle tickets and it says to send payment to Jim Hall but yet the address is for David Reid. Could someone please clarify so I can make sure I get my payment to the correct place. Thanks for any help.

Good point. I like reading about everything even if it is not in my area of focus. I do not know anything about the Lafayette Brewery mentioned above so hopefully more information will follow.
Focus: Cones and flats from MI, WI, IL, IN, and OH. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

Thanks for the clarification keithker. I figured that was the case but wanted to be sure before the mailman picked it up.

Beverlx, I plan to start collecting more actively and hope to make it to some shows. Thanks for the welcome.

Great to know a back story on an awesome can. I have often looked at a favorite old can and wondered, "Who drank this? What were they doing when they did?" I've got none older than mid 70s that I could answer that question about.

If you still live in the Lafayette area, you really need to come to the Cabin Fever show in South Bend in February. It is put on by the Hoosier Chapter. It is a fantastic show. Sometime late this year somebody from the Hoosier chapter will announce all the details on this site so stay tuned.
