Project Kent Underway

#1

Post by Bob L »

Andy and I are in Maine on a digging trip, code named "Project Kent". I'm happy to say that the primary objective has been achieved! We have dug a couple Kent ales! Been a pretty good trip so far. Lots of OIs and other cool cans. Mule Head Ale and 50's Krueger Bock today. Also dug some IRTP Canadian Ace ales! A most-wanted can for me. Tons of K-men. Cliquot Club lo pros, Etc. Two more digging days left.

I know the feeling of digging Kent Ale's and it's awesome. Well done! Maine, dug out? Naw, I've been trying for the last five+ years and have barely made a dent. There are more out there boys...
Thanks. Dave

Nice stuff guys. I'm surprised at the condition of the Krueger's in that one photo. Sandy soil is usually murder on cans.

You didn't want to come out west this time and fight the unusually heavy snowpack? It will be another month before most areas will be open and maybe longer for the higher country.

That soil dosent look too sandy. Those big pine trees probably helped with the condition.

Scott, in my opinion, the condition in Maine is generally poor. But there are exceptions. Like this quart that Andy pulled out. Freakin beautiful! Didn't find much today. Going to hit a different area tomorrow before flying home. Spent 3 hours this afternoon scrubbing off cans in a lake and culling out the rejects. Still have a **** ton of cans to get home. Timing was difficult on this trip. We had to delay for one week because of snow on the ground and ended up fighting the flies. Luckily, we had head nets packed.

Interesting to find beer (as opposed to nearly 100% ale) in Maine. Now all you need to do is find a couple of big goats...

I was unaware of the Ale dominance in Maine. There were many surprises for us. The biggest for me was the amount of 16oz. cans. We even dug a few Krueger Ale 16oz cones. Let it be known .... I destroyed the best one with my digger. :smt021

Not sure if it's Maine specific.....but there does seem to be a general trend that the east coast much preferred Ale......west coast Beer. From an OI point of view, Narragansett Beer, New England Beer, Hulls Lager Beer, etc are as scarce as hens teeth, while their Ale brethren are much more common. On the west coast, we have the same trouble finding Alpen Glow Ale, Eastside Ale, Finer Flaver Ale, Grace Bros Ale, Regal Amber Ale, Wilshire Club Ale, etc....while their Beer Brothers are much easier.

Of course, there are exceptions, please don't hammer me with your Arrow Ale/Beer anomalous behaviour......just fleshing out the general rule.
