Re: YOOPER AHO'S 2017 DUMPFEST
Hey Jonny, what a great time this was. It was great seeing, digging and just hanging out with everyone.
Super trip, and we managed to dig up a few good cans as well. Looking forward to the next Dumpfest!!
Here's a few of my pics from the yooper trail.
I haven't done much with my cans since I got home, I will post some more pics when I get them cleaned and sorted. The map leads us to this area where back in the thirties there was a structure, we find this small 30's surface dump of faded red millers and Blatz cones So we spread out and continue looking around the area. Neil whistles us over from across a ravine, we see Neil pointing. Holy Moly!! With all the big food cans we figured a logging camp dump. we found many Blatz cones, 82 years red Millers and some Old Style low pros. we spent several hours digging this one, it was a beautiful sunny day and it was only Monday. Well the week went by way to fast, what agreat group of guys to hang out with , lots of laughs.
Jon thanks again for putting us UP, and looking forward to our next Miller time!!
Here's to mud on our boots.

Yes, what a great time! Thanks to Greg and Keith for making a most excellent breakfast on Tuesday and Wednesday when Fobs was closed. If any of you guys can make it to Jon's for a dump fest, I highly encourage you to do so! A big thank you to Mr. Aho for hosting as usual. Below is "Lucille"!

Re: YOOPER AHO'S 2017 DUMPFEST
Hi All,
I apologize for the late addition to this thread. Got caught up in real life for a couple of months and haven't been on our site for a while.
I gotta say that I had an amazing time at Yooper Aho's 2017 Dumpfest. Being the rookie of the group, I was in awe of the skilled group of veteran dumpers! It was so great to meet everyone. I was blown away, not only by the knowledge of this group, but by the fact that everyone was really cool and open to sharing their experiences and techniques. Even though many of the group have known each other for years, I felt completely welcome and at home.
I had the opportunity to spend the first couple of days with our amazing host Johnny, Greg (who graciously extended me the invite), and Patrick (our rabbit). Then we all went to Johnny's local dump, where I was lucky enough to dig a Bullfrog, as well as several other new labels for my "dumped it myself" shelf. Again, I cannot express enough my gratitude to so many Rusty Bunchers over the last couple of years, on this trip and others.
Neil spent a couple hours showing me the ropes with his old maps and even brought us to the logging camp where his group found a bunch of pre-war. It was great hanging out with Rockbob, partying late night with Steve, and finally getting to dig with Gary. Always great seeing Keith, who is the one who got me into this crazy sport!
We found cans everywhere! Unfortunately condition was hard to come by in a lot of the spots we dug. However, I am all about variety and we found a lot of variety! My most memorable dig was when I caught a glimpse of an old hunting shack about a quarter of a mile in from the road as we were driving by. It could very well of been an optical illusion, but Patrick and I trecked in to check it out anyway and found the remnants of an old hunting shack. This is where we found the lopro Haas, the flattened gold Drewreys, and several different Goebel and Pfeiffer variations.
Amazing time and I can't wait for the next one!
Here are some photos of the cans I added to my dumped it collection from the trip.

Re: YOOPER AHO'S 2017 DUMPFEST
Hey Scott, No need for apologizes, that's life, I'm usually posting a couple months after a trip myself. It was great meeting you, digging and hanging out you certainly have the passion for this. I'm glad you found some good variety, It sure was fun, I hope you can make Canvention.
I finally got through cleaning my cans and have a few more pics from the yooper trail.
The Logging camp dump was one of my favorites, it still amazes me, eighty years ago, who drank these beers? Most of the beer cans were on the bottom in the good black dirt. nearly all of us dug some at this dump. The Hubberds shoe oil is still made today and was a favorite of loggers for waterproofing their boots. It took three soaks in acid to clean this can.
