Post show dumping
Awesome trip after an awesome show! I found some killer cans today! And some sweet milk bottles. I found 2 Detroit woodgrain Pfeiffer fan tabs, which is a tougher can. Plus the old timers ale is in amazing condition! More pictures to come later.

Unfortunately this 7-up bottle didn't hold up enough to keep

Re: Post show dumping
The old timers can is sweet. Not sure how rare it is, as I am not too deep into cans - but the condition is great.
When you find ACL label bottles of any type (soda, milk, ect) in a dump - just let them dry out with the dirt and grime still on them for a few months. Right out of the ground the paint is very soft and will wash right off with the dirt. Letting them sit for a good while re hardens the paint so you might get few more keepers this way....

It's my favorite can of the bunch! Was surprised to see it. Looks like it has a MI tax stamp on it too. Kinda a traveler. also the whiskey bottle has an Indiana tax sticker still on it. Lots of travelers.iggyks wrote:Ditto that! Umm, make it "Roger that!" Love the Old Timer's especially.

Re: Post show dumping
The one with the deer/winter scene. Its got some battle scars on it but I will definitely keep it. It was 100 percent rust except for a letter at the bottom so I kept it. Glad I did. It's my 2nd Pfeiffer scene can I've dumped nowtomcd62 wrote:nice, hey, what scene is the Pfiffer? tom

Re: Post show dumping
I can't believe I recognized it as soon as I saw it in the ground! I remember the guys from PA finding them a few years ago so I got pretty excited. As for the bottles. I do. Its just so bad sometimes that after five minutes of letting them sit at the dump the paint lifts off the surface. Some bottles hold up well but most will mess up. Never ran into this issue until last summer. Can't imagine what its going to be like digging them 40+ years from nowEd Johnson wrote:The old timers can is sweet. Re: Post show dumping
I was kind of dubious at the show when you said you were going digging afterward, but wow! Nice haul there! I was shocked to see that Cleveland can in the first photo... I didn't know they even sold Old Timers in Michigan. Looks like a great day!

Re: Post show dumping
The Old Timers is one you don't see dumped much anymore. Condition wise & toughness wise, probably one of your best 50's cans you have dumped in your short dumping career! Congrats!

Re: Post show dumping
I am envious of the Old Timers! It was my most sought after can when I went to the Indy Show last year.... I still remember back in the late 70s seeing it in the Lew Cady book and wanting to get one. It's the poor man's Cab Cream Ale, but still a $100 can in good shape. The example you have is great!
Another Cleveland can you might dig is the gold and white Gold Bond which I've seen only a very few times in lower Michigan.

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?

Re: Post show dumping
I could find one I guess. I've been on a roll lately with these cans from other states. We also found an Old German last time as well. I've found those before. I'm pretty sure whoever used this dump back then, some of them were travelers.Longopener wrote:I am envious of the Old Timers!
