Well i'll be go to Hell.....i can't believe that low pro cone top sticking out there with no rust on it for so many years....this dump looks like an above ground dump looked like back in the 70's with all that color showing!

NO, Marc dug those in the Thumb area., I'm more in the Ann Arbor area? I did dig another Progress off I-75 just south of Flint about 16 years ago. LEON.

Chris, In the 11th post on the 1st page (made by Leon), there is a picture with the top of a bottle showing, it looks somewhat like a lo pro.
I did not seee any lo pros in the dump myself. Very few cones at that. All of which were pretty toasty.

Well even if leon doesn't have one i think babel does. We walked into a dump that we named the "sisters house" and he found a LP bev beer sticking halfway out of the ground that looked like it was put there just a couple of years before if not sooner. pretty sure hes got a pic but it may have been to dark yet.

Went back to HELL Today. Brought Chris (longopener) Taylor along. Think it is getting pretty done, almost time to stick a fork in it. Didn't find much today. A few cans here & there but nothing really exciting. I did find a unpictured Soda can as can be seen in Soda section. Chris found a old Brick, old Toilet Plumbing Pipe & Part of a old Lawnmower. Here's a Pic of Chris Analyzing his Bucket of Goods. LEON.

P.S. Click to supersize

Heres my take from yesterday. I was able to add two cans to the dumped in Mi list
1- Falls City OI IRTP
2- Fehrs crowntainer
and dont forget the token Johnny Pfeiffers that make all Mi dumping complete. Why cant they all clean up that good

Hey Tom, what do I win for the correct guess to the crowntainer identity?

I have a few of the Best Premium "pilsener glass" cans (one of my favorite 50's cans) and the first Natty Boh flat filled in Detroit (without 12 Ounces on the face) that should clean up once I get some oxylic acid. In 35 years of dumping Michigan, I NEVER dumped a Natty Boh in Michigan until last Saturday.

I stand corrected...there are areas in Southern Lower Michigan that preserve cans! :smt023 :smt026

There's multiple reasons why this particular piece of land had virgin dumps on it. The WORST part about digging this dump is getting to it...skating between private property and finding a place to park (the entire area is hiking and canoeing and all the roads have "No Parking" signs along them) and super steep, oak leaf covered hills make navigating hazardous...plus any later and the nearby swamp will make this mosquito heaven.

I agree with Leon that it's probably a done deal but finding the condition we were right on top was pretty impressive...especially after Leon and Tom's multiple trips there. With condition deteriorating the further you dig, the chances of maybe one or two cans that would clean up is about as good as it would get... Might be better to hike in with a backpack instead of a complete dumping kit.

Pretty cool finding Falls City's up there. Chris, looking forward to making a road trip up north in a few months to dig. :smt023

How about a grade 10 Fehrs Xl or a grade 5 Falls city :?:

What'd you clean those things with, Tide? I seriously thought they were going to clean up a lot better than that. I am sad to say that those look like the typical southern lower Michigan dumpers I used to dig... Darn the luck... Maybe I was wrong on the soil condition in that place.

I wish we'd taken more pics of that place...was pretty neat layout. Maybe we'll have to go back sometime for a hike.

Matybe I dont mix a strong enough mix. But you have to remember the crowns were mystery cans and most of the Falls city were barely recognizable.

Yeah, Those were pretty rough to start with, I usually leave cans that rough behind but coming out of the Progress O/I hole you never know what you may have for a mystery can, Could of been Oertels Bock Crowntainers  since next to Fall City O/I's. Looks like I was way off with my Altes Guess   LEON.

Maybe I'm spoiled by the cans I dig up north and upstate NY where cans that looked like the Falls City cans did right out of the ground end up cleaning up incredibly. Looks like in the soil down in Hell, what you see out of the ground is what you get.

Sorry, Unfortunately they all say Premium, no All Grain. I did notice some of my Best beer say Brewery Fresh in either dark brown color or some in light gold color. Is one of these tougher then the other? LEON.

P.S. If you click to supersize my soaking Best pic you can read the Premium on can. My old shelf can was a Premium.

The dark brown is a bit tougher than the lighter color. Still pretty common though.

I too have 3 or 4 and none are "All Grain". Only found these Best cans in 2 places since I started dumping in 1976 (Alanson and Hell) and both times were "Premium".

Hey, it appears that the acid transformed the soda flats you were cleaning into Brewery Fresh Best Premium flats!

Let me clarify what I meant by "what you see out of the ground is what you get" as far as cleaning up. So far, it seems that the cans I found on the surface (already pretty clean to begin with and not exposed to deep soil effect) cleaned up while the cans I found buried did not clean up well (like Tom's Falls City cans).
