Hall of Shame

#1

Post by Scott Rollert »

Being true collectors of rust, how many have a threshold of what they'll put on their shelves? I have my Hall of Shame out in the garage, cans I've found that were destined to stay in the minors.
Image
Starting with the bottom row, L to R, the only Tivoli Gardens flat I've dug, Hamms zip that had a tab failure (only opened about 1/8"), Pabst Bock pat. pend., Coors flat with a concave bottom ???, A-1 10 oz. Top row L to R, Century concave bottom, 8 oz. Fox DeLuxe OI, and the crowning glory, my gr. 1 Silver State back.

Fortunately the collection has all the "shamers" in better shape, some more marginal than others. What's the cone in the upper right? The Kreuger looks like the brother to my shelf can...

Scott: Your the one to decide what to keep in your collection, NOBODY ELSE!
I wouldn't of kept them either except in two cases. #1 They were from Pa., such as my Stroud which is BAD! #2 I can remember exactly how I dumped it, such as my Rheingold Golden Bock. Can still remember crawling under a porch in upstate N.Y. and chipping it out of the ice. It was the only we found on that trip or now that I think about it any other! Harry

Actually, it looks like a "CI" can rather than an "IC" can!

* written tongue-in-cheek and in a jealous manner since my IC can looks like this:

Rand i dont see the leaning tower of ballantine beer, did you upgrade? I always liked the way that can looked on the shelf because it looked like it shouldnt stand up. here is a old pic of my shameful cans, the only one i still have is the rams head because i dug that. also another can i had fun digging last year..Great topic!

There are at least 4 of those cans that would make my shelves. My theory is "it's better than the one I don't have". Rand's IC is better than the one I don't have. I sometimes just can't toss a can...because I dug it!

The bullet hole Hornung could start a whole new thread. I'll toss in my candidate for now though.
Image

My guess would be a .22, and if you look closely, the can is a paintover. Working around the bullet hole was a pain...

I LOVE that Hornung Bock can!! Besides being a tough can, its is displayable. Except for the machine gun remnants. What a classic "converstation piece".

I guess I don't have much of a threshold, because these are all shelfers.
Bottom: Krueger Cream Ale, 89/22 & 23, Cab, Eastside Ale w/bullet hole.
Middle: Old Wisconsin, Ox Head, Jacob Ruppert 125-40, Mule Head Beer.
Top: Dingle bay, Bay State Beer, Fort Pitt Beer, Apollo.
Many thanks to the contributors: Paul King, Dan and Ed Scoglietti, Chris Solari and KB.

John, is that the much coveted, only one known, OD Fort Pitt RunnIng waiter Beer. Wouldn't that have been a cool can in OD. Put the waiter in an Army uniform and stick an M-1 Garand in his hands instead of a tray and a beer. Wow!

This is my favorite subject, too. Most of these have been posted, and I have more, many more. These all fit my Coloradoklahomaespanish collection.

Rand, your beauties make me smile.

I think my two cones have all y'alls beat, though. But your Cab, John, is mighty nice along with Rand's "CI" - although, I can't figur out what the LoPro is behind the running waiter's left shoulder on danielj's pic.

Glad you like the O.D.d Running Waiter, Tom.
Here's a couple of other virtual O.D.'s, Goebel 70-31 and Union Cream Ale.
Thought the backfaces of the Bay State and the Old Wisconsin go well with the bullet holed Eastside Ale.

big fan of the SHAME pics, will take some monday, the IC oi looks like it may have been the one Pete D dug, then we sent it to him and I heard it blew up. After putting the pieces back together, I suspect that may be where Rands IC was from.
