None of these came from ebay :) All were either dumped by myself or partners, or came via trades/deals with rbers', or came from Blue Gray or Canvention. The Manhattan is USBCOI516. Actually I originally scored the Islner from a sleeper ebay auction, later sold it to BobL, who dealt it to BR, who recently traded it back to me. Long strange trip. Cheers, Paul

Nothing too interesting......was actually up on ebay (twice?) for sale by one of our very own RBers (you can probably guess who)....recently actually.....and didn't make the reserve....so I contacted the seller about 30 seconds after the auction ended, and cut a package deal for the Rosalie, 3 different Hop Golds, a Silver Springs from Star and a 4 panel All Star.cherrypickermark wrote:Rand,
Please share with us the story behind the Rosalie... I am green with envy!

It is one of the original 5 that came out of the West Texas Firestation/state park dump that had some Black Dallas OIs in there too. Dale & I have a plan to go back there next spring. Got the can from Herman Oswald back in 1985, who by the way, is back into digging cans!
Actually, the Rosie did meet reserve on ebay but the bidder never paid. After 32 days of non-payment and bull crap excuses, I sold it to Rand. It was my downgrade. I had a 3rd which I traded to the Lew Bros that had a big - patched- hole in the side that I believe is in Louisana now. The best one of the find, sold on ebay back in 1998 in a group of cans for $2000. Dont know where #5 is....?????

YOu can really see the differences in the Marque colors on the fronts of the Ale and Beer cones. It is not so apparent in the USBC pictures.
Looking for Illinois, Missouri and Texas steinie bottles. Looking for US stubby bottles produced between 1936 - 1941. Looking for ACL beer bottles. looking for St Louis area cans and certain Chicago area flat top cans. Holy Grail bottles are Old Albuquerque stubby from Albuquerque, Wagner Beer steinie(1937) from Granite City, Ill. and Goldcrest 51 steinie, Schepps Stubby, White Rose Stubby both from Dallas

Can't compete with some of the rare cans posted, but these are the best examples I've been able to come up with of some my favorite Michigan cans
Copper Country can with the alcohol statement
Early cone with black inside the "e" in Ale
Fox Deluxe is non-IRTP
Rare non-rubout Withdrawn Free Goebel can
Super tough enameled paint with red writing on side
Rare 11oz Goebel

Here's a few of my favorites. Why? Well, because I either dumped them myself or acquired them from one of my collector buddies. I can remember most of the places I found the "dumped it myself cans" and that brings back good memories. This post shouldn't be about competing with another collector as that takes all the fun out of it. You should be in it for your own enjoyment and not to satisfy or impress others (in my opinion anyway). A couple of these were recovered this past year while the Highlander goes back quite a few years.
Collector of all Montana and Idaho breweriana, US flats (especially bock), low profile cones and bock beer labels.

Too bad I don't get to see these that often...since kept at my brother's house.
Although I once specialized in Michigan cans, these days I am much more of a pre-war kind of collector.
The bottom row features the "first" Pabst Export, the "first" Tru Blu ale and the "first" Schoelings flat.
The middle row has a Drewry's Cervesa, a Schlitz Export flat top with spanish text on the side and one of the OD "BEER" propellor cans that Candog and the Lewandowskis dumped in upstate Wisconsin.
I know I said I don't specialize in Michigan cans anymore but I do like keeping some of the more exotic variations. The "first" Frankenmuth Ale flat top with the white oval is (as Chuck said) very difficult to obtain. This grade 1 example was in a collection in a low-income housing project a mile or so from my house and is one of only a few I've seen in this condition. The Frankenmuth Beer cone is one of the rare variations with "Frankenmuth-Kentucky Brewing" information blackened out and the Frankenmuth, Michigan info. squeezed in below the black line. The Pfeiffers is the only known ongrade Continental Can Co. variaiton featuring Blue pants and white shoes (as opposed to Blue pants and Black shoes). The Golden Armor speaks for itself! Nice shiny top bottom opened lid too!

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?

Would it change your opinion if I told you the Emil Sicks is the Lager and not the Beer? Should have taken a better shot of the WF statement on the side....oh well.Mike S wrote:Man some nice stuff so far! rand, some killer OI's there but ithink i like the poths the best.

Hey Rand, pretty easy to tell with that bright orange face and bullet holes from the Stew and Nan Wick find in Canada!

Good question....I've studied it long and hard.....and something funky is going on with it. My best guess is that it *WAS* a paint over that was eventually cleaned off. Reason I think that is that the surface is rough and pitted. Something that I would expect to be somewhat smoothed out with paint. Also, the "color" (silver) changes right as you get to the line separating the front panel from the OI/side panels....very subtle....but a change nevertheless. Everything still readable all the way around.....so somebody did something to the face. Not a classic repaint....but something.Rustmonger wrote:The Poth's is a much better can anyway, the condition really sets it apart. Ditto for the Blue & Gold. Question (go ahead, put it in quotes Rand), is the silver Pilgrim a repaint? The silver area looks a little weird.
Oh well...nice placeholder.

Hey Chuck,
Interesting shelf design approach there buddy! I really like how you compertmentalized each section so each can kind of like has its own frame/home. That must have been a bitch to design, I had thought briefly about designing mine that way then I thought... hell, I don't need the grief :-)
Great cans people! I'm impressed! I'll take some pics this week as well.

I was going to add 3 or 4 other cans to that group that are my favorites but not necessarily rare cans. I am sure there are a few "common" cans in each of our collections that we hold some fondness for (even "GASP" Tabs!)

I used to own the repainted Rosalie; the one with the repainted face but original side panels. I got it from Marc, who got it from the Twins. One thing's for sure, whatever type of paint was used on that to "restore" it, that paint was not coming off for nothing! The Lewandowski's, Marc and I all tried to get that stuff off but no dice. I sold the can at BG a few years back. Who has THAT can now?
