Re: Top 10 Michigan cans
New addition - Patrick Henry Magistrate.
Like the Phoenix not necessary a “rare” can but always had my eye on this can and decided to finally pull the trigger.
You only live once!
EDIT: Added my current favorite 10 Michigan cans. Still looking for clean Honer’s HP, Goebel OD, and White Goebel Bock.
Anybody else care to post their current or past favorite Michigan cans?
Let’s see them...I know there are some cool collections out there!

Re: Top 10 Michigan cans
I remember about 10 years ago when Ted Larsen had a small find of 2 mint ones. First one sold on Ebay for about $2,000 & the next week his 2nd one sold on ebay for about $2,500 if I remember right. a record for that can at that time. I think $1,000-$1,500 much more reasonable & realistic for a mint one nowadays. LEON.

That 16 oz strohs fan tab is no slouch. I’ve only seen literally only a handful.

Re: Top 10 Michigan cans
Whatever became of the soupcan Pfeiffer OD? I always had a hard time believing it was an authentic period OD can.
viewtopic.php?t=8293
EDIT:
Added better pictures of Schmidt’s Quart Natural Brew and Pfeiffer OD Czech can from Cansnatcher!!
“Here are a couple pix of the goofy OD Pfeiffer's can. It has water can lids that are bowed out from the pressure of the beer inside. Says Pfeiffer's, but there are several indications that it wasn't actually canned in the US. It was found full in Czech in 1955 and drained then. “

Storzman, Nicest 16.oz Altes zip I've ever seen. Much better then my indoor but spotty grade 2- or 3. If you ever decide to sell let me know. LEON.

Re: Top 10 Michigan cans
Dumped this Schmidts Quart this Spring in the U.P. Grade 11 on 1-10 scale. Was total mystery can when found, acid revealed a Schmidts, BUT, Unfortunately it did not reveal if the "NO SUGAR NO GLUCOSE" variation or the much rarer "NATURAL BREW" variation.

Yeah, that can should be added to list. LEON.
P.S. but most likely was originally intended to be made as a pull tab & think OP only asked for flats & cones to be listed.

Agree that it would have been a pull tab..... The original post was from 2007 so I guess I forgot the rules for the post!! :)

Wow - kamsquared - that is cool - never seen that can from Detroit - only from Baltimore, what is story on how it came to be cut down to 12oz height?

Re: Top 10 Michigan cans
It is a paintover under a Grandpa Grafs Orange soda. The Grafs is a 12oz so the sheet of 16 oz Colts (3 deep) were painted over by 4 deep of 12 oz Grafs.
I got lucky enough to find the middle of a sheet which cut off a bit of the top and a bit of the bottom of the Colt. Somewhere out there are orange Graf's with the bottom cut and the tops cut....not sure how many sheets.
That can doesn't exist in Colt Malt LIQUOR without the 45.....

Had a chance to upgrade my old dumper. Tough to get this Frankenmuth clean, a sleeper of a can.

Nice upgrade at what I thought was a reasonable price. That is one of the better downgrades I've seen.

One of my all time most wanted Michigan cans...ever since I was a kid in Junior High school!
Tough as a dumper let alone clean indoor.

Re: Top 10 Michigan cans
Thank you Leon.
- Good question. I might just stop adding to the Michigan collection and concentrate on other areas.
- But I could see some of the OD Michigan cans, Old Gold, Beer Crowntainer, Honor’s high profile certainly being interesting.
-Also a Haas high profile would be a very sharp can! Don’t see that one too often, would really like that can.
- One of the 3 tough Pfeiffer scenic series would be nice, but All Original, no rolled can or non- original top or bottom.
- Altes Sportsman are great cans too, still a lot out there.
- I’m just starting to think though that the early pre-war cans are maybe more interesting and unfortunately Michigan lacks that variety.
- What Michigan cans are you still looking for?

Re: Top 10 Michigan cans
Good Question, not sure if I'm looking for any Michigan cans think I've had about every different ones there is. Of course are some I'd like to get I never had but those are mostly the extremely rare & expensive ones. being on skid I stay away from those. 4 Panel Old Gold would be nice, Waiting for a white Altes zip top 16 oz. to turn up if it exist, also looking for a white Altes fan tab 16 oz. to turn up if it exist. Would like to replace the Altes Withdrawnfree Crowntainer I once had. Would like to obtain a white Altes crowntainer. LEON.

Re: Top 10 Michigan cans
The Atles withdrawn free crowntainer you found is likely unique. I assume it is still in the collection it went to. I'd love it or be able to upgrade my Copper Club Strong Beer cone. And the Schmidt's Natural Brew quart wold be up there for me.Leon wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 12:31 pm Good Question, not sure if I'm looking for any Michigan cans think I've had about every different ones there is. Of coarse a top ten all time great Michigan breweriana piece should include your incredible find of a previously unknown pre-prohibition sign buried in a privy hole for 100 years!
It really doesn’t get any better than that....what a story and great detective work!
