Millers Auction Co. Advertising Sign Auction

#1

Post by Rand »

All:

Thumbing through the BCCA magazine, stumbled over the advertisement of the Millers Auction thing for signs. Toddled on over to this auction coming up:

https://www.auctionzip.com/auction-cata ... X7EJIIWCWD

....and this park service boundary sign caught my eye:

https://www.auctionzip.com/auction-lot/ ... 06B4B71A5E

Now, not trying to say I'm the worlds greatest expert on this, but I have lived in a NPark for way too long, and seen a number of these signs, and this just screams fake fake fake to me. First, that pine cone thing isn't an NPS logo, and not sure it ever was. Second, every sign I've seen includes statements about it being a "Department of the Interior" sign as well. Third, the non rounded corners are wrong. Fourth, the "N"s in the lettering are inconsistent. Fifth, it says "National Park".....and I've never seen that before, it's always "National Park Service". Sixth, there's a single nail hole in the center top.....that would never be how it was posted.

And the list goes on. I mention all this because the Miller Auction Co. states in this auction that it's a:

"RARE SIGN.... THIS ITEM IS GUARANTEED TO BE OLD & ORIGINAL."

That's a lie, or at best, a completely uninformed and clueless auction house evaluator. Again, mentioning this because I don't know how many other fake signs there are in these upcoming auctions at the Miller Auction Co. ....Most of which include a lot of beer signs.

caveat emptor

Fool rushing in here but... the logo might be OK. Only been using the Arrowhead since 1951/52 Here are the 6 system wide ones they show on their website https://www.nationalparkstraveler.org/2 ... blems25660
And there is a pine cone that is similar but not exactly the same. Did find another image of a still different pine cone logo too. Seems like it took a while for the iconography to get standardized NPS wide so maybe its legit???? Admittedly this resolves none of the other issues you mention. if only we could find some acorns..... Andy

Thanks! Yea....I'm standing pat on "fake". Also, if you look at the back of the thing, seems pretty new.
