Looks like I killed this thread. Please be assured that is not a rare can, I could only wish. It was given to me by a friend and has been hiding under a Corona serape for years. It is a DITTO piece with a plastic label over a rusty can.

I agree, the Apache is not a rare can. I thought we were looking at a repainted dumper . . .

Apache Robert dug several dozen some years ago, and there are at least eight nice indoor cans. Desirable? Yes. Expensive? Very. Rare? Not so much.

I have gotten some pretty tough offgrade cans over the last couple years around here but thought I would post this as, for how little it is worth I have not seen another one. TGG's 2nd? auction had a different scene than this one about a year ago or so. Think one other scene with this gold enamel paint is out there too. Have to say I'm fishing for info/thoughts as much as anything else... Andy

I picked up an enamel bank top Bear on ebay a couple of weeks ago. A Moose went for an insane amount of money in TGG and they also had a Train/Wagon. I could be wrong but I think one of the Pheasants in the USBC is enamel as well.

I guess the short list of 5 different scenes with enamel gold kinda gets at my point for posting this variation- now we are up to 5 one of a kind cans and don't even have half of this set represented. If they are gonna come out of the woodwork this is certainly the place though.. Looks like you got a great deal even with a couple issues. Wonder if it was rolled- silver ends seem wrong? Andy

For me it's the cans that were forced off the market due to legal action:

If a can is one of a kind, can it be more or less rare than another one of a kind can?

Forgot this less attractive can. I believe it is more rare than the red lion cone. This is the only one I have seen in person and only know of 2-3 others. Picked it up in Portland in 2016.

Fun thread to look at. I’ve not thought about it much, but it might be this one. This was a mythical can to me for years as a collector. Didn’t think it actually existed. Not very sexy, as it’s a supermarket can and not exactly beautiful, but I’ve only ever seen ONE other in person, and a couple in pictures. My impression is that it’s super, super tough. And grade 1 to boot.

Marc, why are you picking on Apache? The topic is, "what is the rarest can in YOUR collection?" Not what is the rarest can in the world. Apaches are rare! How many good ones (with color) do you EVER see available at a show or anywhere...none! If we go by your premise, about 99% of the cans pictured in this link are not rare. I have yet to dig an Apache and have been looking for them since I moved back to New Mexico in 2008. Yes, Apaches are rare....!

All of these cans came out of the same dump on the North Carolina Southern border in 1991 or 2. The Hopfheiser is the rarest can I have dumped.
