Boulder Junction beer can hunt

#1

Post by Ziphippie »

Left early under a waning crescent, ideal for a can hunt- digging starts at 9am.

Zoinkss, Rusty J., BadgerJeff and myself have a lead on an old resort dump. Single punches and cones are visible on the surface in some of the pics, might be a little damp. Here we go- Ziphippie

I like walking along Trout Lake on Bendrick Dr. I've tried ice fishing there for walleyes, but no luck yet, a big lake to figure out. Beautiful area. The company I work for put an addition on a home out on the big island on Trout, fun job, incredible view.

We had a great time digging, thanks to Bob Jackson for setting us up. Time was running out, glad we got to see it before the dozer shows up. Here is the digging crew, hopefully they will post cleaned cans. BadgerJeff hit a vein of cones, he was knee deep in rust. Rusty and I ended up back at Star Lake, we found a couple Pabst Exports before dark and will hit some areas this morning. Ziphippie

Thanks for letting us all participate in your adventure! Years ago the cross-state bike (pedaling) ride that we used to do - GRABAAWR (Great Annual Biking Adventure Along the Wisconsin River) - used to start in BJ. Can't remember the bar in the middle of downtown. Great place - rustic - bartender wore a Bowie knife. Can't wait for the post cleaning pics!

Great post Bjorn! love all the pics,
Fun Times!! up at Boulder Junction. I had a great time getting out and digging some rust. Meeting some new people and hanging out with some good friends.
Again thanks to Bob for setting this up and Zoinks for being the ringmaster in the coordination of the event,
and also Zoinks, for the tasty sandwiches, those were so good. (danny it's the only way I could describe them)

I don't think we were the first ones here, I pretty sure it was flipped in the past. But I think we still found a few good things and had a blast doing it.
I brought home maybe 100 cans mostly mysteries, had time to soak a batch.

The Prima OI is a new can for me and I will upgrade with a high-pro Old Style cone. The Mason grape is a good find, found at the last dump on Saturday, it was hot buggy and sweaty I found this can and gave it another thirty minutes hoping to find a better one. I don't think anyone got any ticks, someone mentioned that they usually aren't bad in July. Lovegun my hairs not as long as yours was ..yet. I'll post more pics when I getsome more cleaned cans, got another 20 soaking. Happy summer everyone..and

summer dumping, had me a blast... summer dumping , happened so fast.. TELL ME MORE, TELL ME MORE...

ok, i'll put away my karaoke singing... we used to go back and re-work prior dumps we found in the spring when we were really in can mode, sometimes wandered the cabin tracts in summer detecting for dumps, might of found a dump or two ( right Digger) its work but always rewarding and ya never know...

and Rusty needs a new avatar, seems ya got past that point of no return and keep it going!

kb,
Yeah I may be at the point of no return, though some days I'm ready to get out the clippers and go for a crew cut like my Dad gave me as a kid. Other days I kinda dig it.

Well I got through all my cans and hear are the results. Some really fun surprises, I was hoping to find at least one can for the shelf, ended up with six.
One soda and five beers. Here's a few more pics of the adventure, and of the cans.

Cans for the Shelf
This was an excellent adventure all around, and really happy with the new cans. As always I wish condition was better but these cans have been in the elements for 82 years. Thrilled to put another Manhattan can on the shelf with the Prima. and this is my 3rd Atlas Prager OI variation. I knew nothing of the OLd Style LP variations before finding these, so that was a fun discovery. Also I was told the LP "pants" variation is one of the toughest. I thought that the Old Style HP was an upgrade but turns out, a new variation. Also thrilled with the Mason's Grape soda, I haven't found a Mason's soda can in near ten years.
Such a fun time all the way through. Looking forward to getting out again.

Thanks Ed, I appreciate the nice comments.

Sauer Kraut Juice
Is a truly distinctive, appetizing start to any meal..... Refreshing health treat at bedtime.

My Dad told me back in the day people drank it as a hangover remedy. That may be why we find them with beer cans.
I looked at the back of the two brands I have, and the Franks actually list that as one of it's uses. Otherwise both brands suggest mixing with other fruit or vegetable juices.
