The 2 breweries that come to mind are Esslingers and Northhampton. I was told once it was because the breweries were trying to find which can sold the best. I don't know how much truth is in that statement, but it sounds good to me, though I do find it a wasteful practice. If the beer is good, what does it matter what kind of container it comes in?
