Wow! Did this can surface in Minnesota? Curious, because I believe one of the others did. Was Autocrat sold in MN?

Bob,
If this can was found in MN it would have been really nice coming out of a ceiling. This was found in New Orleans.

A Katrina survivor! Wonder how many others got washed away? Awesome find and the odds of it being that versus a common 30's Pabst or Bud are astronomical.

OMG.....I am SOOOOO glad I got out of the OI game....not sure I have that much room on my credit cards. Now, if comparatively common Neuweiller Bocks are pulling in $30K+......where do we think this is going to land?

It's amazing what's still falling out of the walls. Congrats Dan. Simply jaw dropping. I can only imagine what's still in the walls, floor boards and ceilings out there.
Thanks. Dave

Re: Sweet Can from A Ceiling Find
Consolidated Companies? Is that a true brewery or a 'front' for an un-named brewery?
Based in Louisiana, so not surprising it turned up in New Orleans area, I guess.
it is refreshing that if there had to be a less-than-nice part of the label it wasn't the face, for the most part.
A nice looking can.
This find reminds me of the Glory B find a year or two ago. Extremely tough, neat looking can that only one turned up.

If I were that electrician I would try to go back, pop out that can light and use one of those small extendable cameras to look around. I am sure the owners would not mind some Sheetrock repair if you gave them a nice check

Re: Sweet Can from A Ceiling Find
Consolidated Companies is not a name I have ever heard associated with a New Orleans brewery. I will nose around in the Times-Picayune archives and see what I can find out about them. I have seen grocery ads indicating Autocrat was sold here, but this is the first can I've seen that would verify it.stringsx24now wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 5:53 pm Consolidated Companies? I'm not all too familiar with Autocrat cans that are known- do they all have this Consolidated Companies thing on the back, or do ones from other areas have something different written there?
As to Katrina, much of the older housing here was damaged or destroyed in Katrina- but not all of it, by a long shot. Areas near the river were not flooded, nor were older homes on the West Bank and in parts of Metairie. There are still plenty of places around here where old cans could be hiding.
I'll bet when that homeowner finds out just how rare of a find they made, they tear out more of the sheetrock looking for more.

Re: Sweet Can from A Ceiling Find
UPDATE: I have found reference from 1920 to "Consolidated Companies, Inc." which was a wholesale grocery business. There is a Consolidated Companies in business today, but it only dates back to 1992.

Re: Sweet Can from A Ceiling Find
In the 1930's Consolidated Companies was a grocery wholesaler, like Dave said. There was also an associated grocery wholesaler (Goodman and Beer. Inc.) that that sold a line of groceries like canned vegetables and soup using the "Autocrat" brand. Those items were still being advertised in New Orleans as late as 2000.

Re: Sweet Can from A Ceiling Find
Actually if the homeowner found out the contractor stole stuff out of his attic, he’d be calling the cops. Grand larceny is a felony....Dixie Dave wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 1:41 pmI'll bet when that homeowner finds out just how rare of a find they made, they tear out more of the sheetrock looking for more.
Hopefully he told the homeowner and it was cool for him to take it.

Re: Sweet Can from A Ceiling Find
As I stated, this can was found over a year ago, and was found in a office complex. Old building used as office space. I asked if he would try to find more, he has no desire, sounds like he has a very successful contractor business, and does not want to waste his time with beer cans.

I think I would be considered successful by most standards and I love wasting time with beer cans.
In fact, I'm doing that right now.

The can is similar to the Rosalie, which was a house brand for Church Point Wholesale, just like Autocrat was the house brand for Consolidated Companies.
