Rubout Question

I know there are beer cans under automotive cone top cans, but has anyone ever rubbed out, a 12 oz flattop automotive can and found a beer can underneath. I got these 2 cans at work and i was wondering if there is a beer can underneath. But I’m not going to spend the time, if nobody has ever found anything. I get a bunch 12 oz ish automotive cans at work and I’ve been wondering if there is anything underneath them.

There's also that law of thermodynamics that says that any rubbed-out can that turns out to be a Peoria Budweiser would still be a Schwegmann Bock if you just. hadn't. messed with it.

Wasn't there a zip top automotive can posted once? Might be good chance of that being a beer/soda can.

I understand it is time consuming to rub out a can but on the other hand, I would hate to see an opportunity pass. If these cans mean nothing to you, perhaps you could simply give them to somebody who is willing to put the time into them.

Post pics of the seams....it's usually pretty easy to see if there is something underneath.

Here are the pictures of the seams, with the atlas cans, there were about 50 dropped off at my work. I just wanted to see before I brought 50 cans home of old break fluid.

Ccc77 did a lot of this under enamel labels. The can on the right is metallic so that’s not a rubout for sure. I look for primer, like Kams pointed out, along the seam- a scratch may also show some color underneath. Sometimes the label underneath is visible in the right light. This tranny fluid had some crosshatching in the primer, pretty obvious cover up I need to finish. I suspect there are many more. It’s still full! Ziphippie

I usually check a small spot with fine sandpaper, just to see if there's something underneath. it only takes a few seconds to do a small spot. Try a spot at the seam where you might find mandatory info.

The coolant system can looks like it "might" have something underneath.....it's hard to tell from pictures. As Zipphippie stated, you usually look for primer or a discoloration at the seam. Take a little rubbing compound to the seam and see if anything pops.

Thanks to all who responded. I emptied all the cans at work and will take them home. I will get to them soon I hope. I have a couple of concave bottom cones that I got from here to do too. Hopefully I will have some luck. I will let you know.
