Re: LAND oF LAKES. TAB
Beg to differ, too. These nice gold bottoms have been floating around in the past... I can easily add one to the bottom of your LOL. Matter of fact, several bottomless LOL like Aho's have had bottoms added via a can seamer. I can easily make you a $1,000 air sealed tab, you can putll the tab off yourself.

Re: LAND oF LAKES. TAB
I think no dumpers are known, which supports the never-filled theory (especially for such a common label).

Re: LAND oF LAKES. TAB
Not sure that this adds anything to the discussion but thought to at least provide....I looked at the 1966-1968 ads for Land of Lakes beer. The ads stopped in 1968. Sadly, none of the ads included the brewery name. No ads ever in Colorado (could just be no Colorado newspapers in database).
There were ads in 1966 in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Georgia (that would answer for the known flat tops that have Georgia tax stamps on them......and oh those were flat tops).
There were ads in 1967 in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Missouri and Wisconsin. No mention of the brewery.
There were ads in 1968 in California, New Mexico, Texas, and Missouri. No mention of the brewery.
So a few questions.
1 - Would a 1968 can still have a flat tops
2 - WTH is the deal with a 16oz LoL beer being advertised in 1968 in a New Mexico newspaper.....flat top? Just a mistake since it was advertised as a 12oz in 1967 in New Mexico.....but then there were 16oz cans listed in 1966.....and oh it lists it as an "Eastern beer"

Re: LAND oF LAKES. TAB
Between me and the many dozens of other folks who have dug cans in Missouri over the years, I am confident in speculating that thousands of Land of Lake cans have been found in hundreds of dumps here. I've never heard of even a single tab top being unearthed. Although that doesn't provide 100 percent proof that only flat tops were filled and marketed, it does make for some pretty strong evidence to that effect.
We have found them mixed in with mid to late 60s national brands that are tab tops, so I would wager that the struggling Pilsen brewery continued on with flat tops because they were cheaper to buy from the can companies. Again, not proof-positive, just more compelling evidence.

Re: LAND oF LAKES. TAB
Regarding the Tivoli bottom LOL. When I started working on the CO composite, I took the original list compiled by Walter Herget and put it into the Excel format. Walts list was put together over many years beginning in the 1970's. The LOL was listed in his original compilation, along with the other Chicago labels I mentioned earlier. I truly believe Tivoli canned and sold those and others with the Tivoli bottom lid. The first LOL I remember seeing was at a Central City show in the early 80's when it was mostly trade only.

Re: LAND oF LAKES. TAB
I grew up in East Texas and dumped all over Texas and Louisiana. I have never known anyone to ever find a 16oz Burgermeister from Longview. Every Texan I know would have bet their last dollar that can was never made. We had never seen one and have not seen any documentation that Schlitz canned it in Longview. Yet there are 2 or 3 examples floating around.
Just because you haven't dumped one doesn't mean it never existed.
So they were advertising LOL flats in 1968?

Couldn't agree more with the concept that the lack of a dumper disproves can authenticities . Many dumpers esp early ones didn't dig much in newer pull tab dumps. How many Renaee Premium and Rheinbeck cans have been dumped . A dumper helps shows authenticity but the inverse is not true . If there are cans with very few dumpers eg Silver Gold Seal ok then I am sure there are numerous with zero known dumpers.

Re: LAND oF LAKES. TAB
A couple folks have a funny way of agreeing with me in acknowledging the point that not finding any dumpers does not provide any guarantee that the can is not real. That's why I stated regarding the absence of dumpers "...that doesn't provide 100 percent proof that only flat tops were filled and marketed...", and then reinforcing that point again be stating "Again, not proof-positive...."
Another obvious point is that, if the tab tops were filled and marketed by Tivoli in Colorado, why the f#ck would anyone expect them to be found in Missouri?
Trying to point out the merits of both sides of a discussion, even while advocating my own view, has always been something I've strove for. I suppose that's kinda out of style these days.
Checkin' out for a while. Maybe I'll be back in January.

I love ya John.......and value your opinion on almost everything, can related or not. I do agree it is getting tougher and tougher to post personal ideas on this board without getting the feeling you are getting slammed. Don't stay away for too long.......

Re: LAND oF LAKES. TAB
I've said it here before and I'll be happy to say it again.
NOBODY KNOWS EVERYTHING...BUT EVERYBODY KNOWS SOMETHING!
That's why we're here. We're here to share what we know and learn what we don't know. We've learned that cans that aren't supposed to exist...do exist. If you're into variations, you need to be writing a lot of stuff down. If you're not sure about something, ask the question. Sooner or later, someone will answer it. Maybe not to your satisfaction, but it'll be answered. Keep an open mind. People will share what they have, what they believe, maybe even offer proof. Doesn't mean they're right, doesn't mean they're wrong. Read through everything and come to your own conclusions. How hard can that be?
I found these pages in the BMV program. Might explain a little about Tivoli and about Land Of lakes. I marked the areas where they're mentioned. Draw your own conclusions...

Re: LAND oF LAKES. TAB
from what that sez sounds like some full ones should be floating around. Sounds like the Brewery may of closed before they could marketed/distributed the Land Of Lakes possibly explaining why no Dumpers. I found the Strohs info Interesting. LEON.

This makes me think of a scenario a lot like the KOL cans from Silver Springs.

The middle paragraph on page 4 states that only 12oz cans were filled. The next paragraph states that Tivoli used Flat & Tab lids indiscriminately giving substance to your "cheaper" comment.foreigncanman - November 15th, 2019, 3:24 pm
