Information on Jamestown Brewing, Jamestown NY.

#1

Post by Pokey »

A good friend's son is the head brewmaster at the new Jamestown Brewing located in Jamestown NY. I am trying to find out any and all information about the brewery as well as what breweriana if any is available for the pre-prohibition brewery of the same name. The only thing that I have found so far is on the oldbreweries.com website and it is not very detailed. It also does not discuss post-prohibition and my friend's son was pretty sure they re-opened after repeal for a short time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an embossed bottle from that brewery if he is interested. Sadly, the crown on it is a generic cap.

@Pokey Ok Here is what I was able to gather from newspapers.com Looks like there was one earlier reference to the "Jamestown Brewery" related to a murder trial but believe this was just likely named after the city. The real first mention is in the Jan 15 1897 article. A few other articles included events that occurred leading up to Prohibition. Looks like they bottled soda called Thirst during Prohibition and then eventually sold over to a milk bottling company. Best I could do on such a short period of time.

Hope it helps.

I enjoy doing brewery histories as many know and am listed as a BCCA historian. There are some good histories I wrote that can be found here:
https://www.bcca.com/beer-breweries-and-breweriana/

BTW Thanks goes to @idigrust Danny for posting them there.

And who knows when I eventually retire I'll have much more time on my hands to write more brewery histories....

Have not been to this brewery as it is in the area. Southern Tier is in the next town (Lakewood) and a new brewery opened up in Mayville this summer. Looks like a nice Fall day trip.
