Red/white Koehler pull tab can.
After replying to Dab B's thread about the tough Blatz white/gold tab can, it made me want to seek out info on this rare? Koehler tab, I found one last Sunday at the Lake Erie chapter show in Conneaut in Art's tote box, I know Art is a big Koehler collector so it made sense that he would have one up for grabs, quite pricey, but I bought it anyway being it's the first one I've seen be available anywhere, the can I bought is air sealed, I asked Art if the one he has in his awesome collection was air sealed or open, he said his is bottom opened which makes me wonder if these were ever filled or not, bumped in to a few other collectors at the show after buying the can that claim it to be possibly a test can?, not sure, hoping someone here may know the story behind this can.

Re: Red/white Koehler pull tab can.
Art and I have disagreed on this before. He says they were filled, but I believe them to be test cans. Back in the day, my father, who new the management team at the brewery, got 2+ cases of air-filled cans from them. He said they made this to see if they liked the color for use on what eventually became the Lager Beer cans-the ones with Uncle Jackson’s picture. Note those cans have a slightly different color. There were a few others of these cans that were obtained by another Erie collector, but I cannot remember the name. Other than Art, no one has ever been able to substantiate that these were actually filled. Regardless, this is a rare can as there has only been 1 sold on eBay in at least 7 years.
Hopefully that helps.
Thanx.

I was fortunate to get one from the 'uncle' quite a few years back. Other than that, I've not seen them. I suspect either test can or a very limited test market run on the design.
Nice score.

My response on this can is similar to the white Blatz can. I had an extensive tab collection and I never had this can, nor did I have a chance to get one. I'm have no knowledge of whether it was ever filled or not, but it was definitely a short lived test run.
Cool can!

I have one, only because I was tipped off to look for it by Jay Herbein. As usual in my case with odd ball tabs, I either traded for it or picked it up cheaply. It is air sealed.

I picked one of these up on eBay many years ago--oddly enough, I don't remember paying much or having much competition for it. Just another overlooked tab I guess.
