Thurmond WV Pre-prohibition bar sign
These are some scenes from a video on ghost towns. This one included Thurmond WV and included The Dunglen hotel which was across the river from Thurmond. Quite the bustling little town back in the day.

Curious if anybody had ever gone digging out in this area.
Any guesses at what the pre-Prohibition beer sign is in the bar scene (image #2)? @Jim Romine or @Joe Older Sadly the hotel mysteriously burned to the ground in 1930.
BTW is that Uncle Daev passed out in the third image with all the beer drinkers?

Re: Thurmond WV Pre-prohibition bar sign
I've been through there several times. There was a large find of pre-pro embossed bottles just down river from there. I'd love to know what that Extra Pale Beer is (Morlien?), and would REALLY like to find the framed sign on the right with the lovely lady.
I found my dumper upside down West Virginia Pilsener tab on the road out of Thurmond.

I can't tell what the sign is either but I believe the wooden keg in the third picture says Schmulbach on the end, which makes sense. They were a pretty big WV brewery before prohibition. Definitely Daev passed out in that picture!
Always looking for West Virginia breweriana from Fesenmeier and Parkersburg.

Re: Thurmond WV Pre-prohibition bar sign
2 of the times I visited West Virginia I took old Train rides through the Mountains to or from Ghost Towns. Thurmond could of been one of them? Nice way to see some Old obscure stuff you can't see from the roadways. LEON.

Re: Thurmond WV Pre-prohibition bar sign
If you Google Thurmond, WV you can see that the train depot is still standing. It has been restored and is now the visitors center. Wonder what might be in the attic....? Quite a few boarded up buildings there too but probably been cleaned out since it is a known ghost town and gets a fair number of visitors for that reason. Beerhunter14, if you are referring to Rob Musson's books that were published last year, they are crammed full of pictures of breweriana and historical information provided by several Rusty Bunchers, notably Ted Wolfe and Jim Romine. What started as one book quickly evolved to two and finally three volumes because of the amount of information we provided Rob!

Re: Thurmond WV Pre-prohibition bar sign
The badge in the circle logo on the right side of the sign leads me to guess it is a Reymann Brewing Co. sign.

Yes, I'm referring to Rob Musson's book and never realize it came out Vol. 3. Thank for the information.
