Interesting piece of VA breweriana

#1

Post by DURTBAGG »

So here is an interesting piece of pre-pro VA breweriana. A shoe shine brush from the Virginia Brewing Co out of Roanoke, VA. Based on the name Henry Scholz showing as sect., it appears this piece dates anywhere from 1892-1916 when VA went dry. Anyone ever seen this or other shoe shine brushes with advertising on them? Just got it today and think it’s pretty cool. Can just imagine a young kid outside a saloon that served Va Brewing co. beer, earning a penny a shine using this brush

The Grand Rapids Brewing company gave out a round shoe brush to a visiting group of Elks in 1915. I cannot find a side view of the brush but here is what it looked like on the top. These are difficult to find but not impossible.

Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.
