Detroit Demolition Find.

#1

Post by Leon »

Past couple of days been climbing under old house crawlspaces of Abandoned house looking for old cans & bottles. I did get a real nice bottle today. got a few bottles under a few different house's but this McBride Earl & Pollard Hutch Bottle by far the best. Attic mint with mint intact Hutchinson Stopper. Probably dates between 1900-1910 roughly. Could be 1890's but no later then 1910. LEON.

That's an interesting thought.

My grandfather had a paper route for several years as a kid during the great depression, circa 1930's. Back then, apparently, Indian head penny's would pop up in change somewhat frequently like wheat back penny's used to say 20 years ago (and still do occasionally). He saved them and I now have them. Over 100 of them.

Great find Leon...…

So what kind of value would these bottles have? The only reason I ask is I am clueless on bottles and just a can collector....Please inform me as it might be something I should look for....

Collecting prior to WWII was a pastime reserved primarily for the rich. After WWII, an increase in the size of the middle class led to an increase in collecting.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

I'm about 99% sure all Hutches contained Soda but a small amount may of contained Mineral Water & other miscellaneous like Birch Beer, Ginger Beer, Root Beer, Cider, ect, ect. Even though a small amount of Hutches where made by Breweries & say Brewery right on bottle & I have a couple of those I've been told by a Hutch Specialist/Expert that they never contained Beer. Brent G.
Brent, Usually they average around $10-$30. For some reason Alaska Hutches & Hutches that say Territory Instead of just the states name & a few others will easily get over $100 & some over $500. The good thing is I could buy a super Rare one of a kind or only known Michigan hutch for $100 while the same one of a kind Michigan can, can cost you Thousands. LEON.

Outstanding find Leon! I love all the bottles you turf up.

I always wanted to dig one of those privy's.

Here in Logan they just took out a half dozen turn of the century houses on the main street. I wondered if there could have been some good stuff on the lots. There's going to be a large hotel placed there so we'll never know.

Wow, I'm on a roll, Friday after work got the attic mint Hutch & then come Monday after Work I rescue Cobalt Blue Hutch from it's 100+ year old resting spot. From a old Lot that had it's house torn down like 6 months ago. They never filled the hole in yet. Figured I'd recheck hoping the rain has wash out some bottles from the dirt & it did. LEON.
