Help with old Falstaff advertisements

#1

Post by HiJax »

I picked up a couple of older Falstaff signs recently and one of the previous owners had painted the frame with what looks to be flat white house paint. I've tried a couple things to see if I could remove it and get it back to it's original state, but no luck so far. Anyone have any ideas about what I should try? It's cardboard, so I'm pretty limited in options. Does anybody possibly have a donor Falstaff frame I could buy? Thanks! Phil

If the frame is cardboard, I think it is unlikely you will discover a way to remove it because the paint will have soaked in as opposed to drying on the surface. Your donor idea sounds like your best bet. Even if you never find donor frames, they are still great pieces.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

These are all one piece of cardboard , the frames are not a separate part .
The borders (frames) are easily damaged .
Why someone painted them white is baffling .
occasionally see them re-done with wood frames ,
with ok results
To me it makes Goog Goog sense !
