2019 NCAA Tournament Challenge

#1

Post by Randy Karasek »

The NCAA College Basketball tournament is quickly approaching, with teams selected and brackets open Sunday night, March 17. Same as the past five years, we have a "Rusty Bunch" group under ESPN's Tournament Challenge website. The link for this year's brackets/info is:

http://fantasy.espn.com/tournament-chal ... t/2019/en/

If you already have an ESPN account from previous season, just need to sign in and create two empty brackets. If you don't have an account, it is easy and free to create one. Rules are the same as past seasons:
  • Private group, need to be a Rusty Bunch member to win prizes
  • Each member may create TWO brackets. Give yourself two chances to win
  • Recommend using your RB name somewhere in the bracket name so we can tell who is not doing very well
  • Create your TWO empty brackets now, point/click to fill in predicted winners after March 17 team selections
  • Will use ESPN's default scoring, which weights wins deeper in the bracket
  • Prizes are again $50 for first, $30 for second, $20 for third
  • There is ZERO cost to enter, nothing to lose but maybe some pride...
The group name is "Rusty Bunch", the password is "oxalic"

Once you have created your two brackets, please make sure to join them to the Rusty Bunch group. Brackets/picks automatically lock just before first game, so pay attention and don't forget if you want to play. If not joined to the Rusty Bunch group before locking, no chance of winning, not my problem!

I love this tournament and been in one for nearly 35+ yrs. and always thought I knew more than the next guy and boy am I wrong....So in all those yrs here is my top 4 scores in those office pools...

1st...one time(won by 1 point)
2nd..Zero
3rd..two times
4th..three times

As you can tell I suck at this but I plan on winning this one. :smt017

Actually we have six with Rusty Bunch joined brackets thus far, which is five more than I was expecting until last minute. List as of Monday afternoon:

Ted Wolf, Rick78, Gorrister, stringsx24now, mikebeam and myself. The_Brad_Meister has just one bracket linked.

Strongly recommend anyone interested in playing create their brackets right now, not the last few minutes before the first tip. That way fully ready to point/click your losers really fast after March 17. Also, remember you get TWO chances, but if you are confident in riding one team all the way, go for just one...

Seeing UM get schooled TWICE by Michigan State not ideal way for my team to enter the tournament, but at least my neighbor Notre Dame is staying home.

Today, Sunday March 17 is "Selection Sunday". Later this evening the NCAA will announce the full 68 team bracket, after which you have less than FOUR days to make your game selections. Brackets lock automatically by ESPN before the first game on Thursday (the play-in two games on Tuesday don't count for scoring).

As of right now, we have 25 brackets among 13 different RB members. I am guessing 40-45 before Thursday. For those that already have created empty brackets, make sure to fill in selections sometime next few days. For those still wanting to join, there is still time to create an account and add brackets.

Remember, this is completely FREE, so if you are planning on watching any NCCA Basketball this March, why not join us. Also, our group name is "Rusty Bunch" and the password is "oxalic"

If Duke looses to the 16th seed this year 99.9% of brackets will be instantly screwed...lol (including mine!)

Looks like we are now 60+ brackets, and ESPN should lock them soon, so we can see all brackets. Some RB members seem to have waited until Thursday morning and what style bus the team road to the arena to determine win/loss for that first round game...

And yes, this year does seem like if #1 seeds get knocked out early, going to be many busted brackets. Seemed harder to pick upsets this year.

Definitely some exciting basketball with first round in the books, and enough upsets and close games to make exciting. The Big Ten showed why they deserved 8 spots, going an impressive 7-1. As for the RB brackets, not a bad way to enter round two this weekend:

Round 2 in the books. While it would have destroyed both my brackets, I was pulling for Iowa to knock off Tennessee, and especially UCF to take down Duke. Both had real chances for memorable upsets, but overall Round 2 ended up being higher seed taking care of business. Should be some good games this week, but the ACC and Big Ten sure dominating so far.

Here is the RB leaderboard after round 2. As always, correct picks in the later rounds dominate all, and the big number is "MAX" points possible.

Iowa's comeback against Tennessee was incredible, and the Duke - UCF game was one of the best college games I have ever seen. One disappointment with the Sweet 16 is that only one team seeded above 5 made it. Never seen so much "chalk".

Most likely because you picked Nova deep in both brackets and I only show the top 10? Go to ESPN "Rusty Bunch" leader board and keep scrolling down, down, down...

Wow, did Michigan realize they had a basketball game Thursday night??? Pathetic just 18 points at the 16:30 mark of the second half! Such an ugly way to end the season.

Also looks like I was only one with Tennessee to win this thing, so that bracket is toast! I will post top 10 after the elite 8 are known Friday night.

At least Purdue remembered that "round ball goes in metal ring"...

I have done almost everything wrong this year in my brackets but the one thing I did right was to pull against my home state of Michigan last night.

Some good basketball Saturday. My opinion Auburn was the best team remaining until Okeke injury late. Hope nowhere near as bad as it looked.

Also, now down to the Elite 8 getting those nasty "pink" color brackets with lots of lines through them. Looks like if Virginia or Kentucky win it all, we will have easily clear winners. If Duke, then going to be close between the top three.

Well Michigan State has certainly made things interesting! So many Duke winners now are "pink with line drawn through", and RB standings adjusted. I have included the top 10 as usual, but also #24 and #29 that have Michigan State winning it all. I have not done the math, but they might be making a big jump if the Spartans cut down the nets next Monday night.
