It wasn't all peaches and cream at BG when Greenblatt sold his collection either.
I miss the Lewo's, they were something to watch when they were in action....BG, Walkie-Talkies w/Candog, Waggoner's or any place I ever saw them.
Once the fever gets in you, it's hard to get rid of.....

Re: Lew Bros Collection Price List
I always felt an attachment to that Waldorf Bock. They had the front - and only the front - of a Waldorf Bock can. I lent them one of my Waldorf cans which they cut up into pieces and before long they had generated an entire Waldorf Bock can, complete with side panels and a seam, everything. As a gag, they sent me back in the mail a copy of bits and pieces that remained of my original can.

The photos posted here in the wood display were from the Lewandowski's collection March 2002. The totes are actual pictures they sent out in October 2002 for sale.

Re: Lew Bros Collection Price List
With their approach of getting an example of every flat made, can someone tell me-- did they just try for any example? DId they have standards on condition and try to upgrade, or if they had an example did they stop looking for a better example?

Re: Lew Bros Collection Price List
They would take any can in any condition with the hopes of later upgrading. What you see in the pics is the cream of the crop but they had a ton of low grade cans too. It's probably not much of a stretch to say they had the best off grade collection ever assembled. Their stuff was amazing. I used to love trading with them because it was always a major coup when you turned up something they actually needed. Those two guys put some incredible cans on my shelves over the years.

Re: Lew Bros Collection Price List
I did buy a couple of the cans shown in the picture above (not the 4 or 5 figure ones though...). That said, what I remember most is going through totes and totes of cans at the Canvention that year. It was mind boggling picking through variations that I needed for my California collection at the time. I must have spent at least 2 hours with my USBC smiling like a kid in a candy store. I think I picked up something like 60 or 70 cans including 12 Bull Dogs alone! The best thing is they were mostly off grade and fairly affordable.

Re: Lew Bros Collection Price List
I've got about 16-20 pictures of the Lew Bros' collection when it was up on display. Pretty mind-boggling! The sale totes pics were great too - hard to focus on one can at a time.

Re: Lew Bros Collection Price List
By the way, that's Wayne Stober's metallic Fox Deluxe from Grand Rapids in there. I bought it from Ted after Chris passed on it, then traded it to the Lewandowskis when they got out of cones. I have to think that has gone up more than the Pfeiffer's OD, and it's certainly scarcer.

Re: Lew Bros Collection Price List
Hah! I remember the Waldorf thing well. I "lent" the twins a Waldorf Ale and they chopped it up to create side panels for the Waldorf Bock (which previously had a huge hole there). They sent me back a few pieces of what was left of my old can. I am sure that I received some sort of compensation via cans for my services. LOL. Matt

The Hopfeiser was shellacked but where you going to get one for less than that?
Also, here’s a bunch of pics that Marc Tracy took of their collection in 1998.

Re: Lew Bros Collection Price List
I met the twins not long after they put the cones on the market, so they had them in totes at that point. I'm sure some killer stuff was gone already, but plenty was left still too. I got their Trenton, Brockert Porter and Wacker Little Dutch, so the stuff definitely wasn't picked over at that point.Brent Gesland wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 1:16 am I know that the Lew Bros sold off there cone top collection many yrs ago to focus on flat tops.
